Default What does it mean when this happens?

Hi,

Not sure if this should be in 'Under the hood' or in here but since it happened at the track i'm posting here.

So i came off a 10 minute session and popped the bonnet (hood) open to find the below connector/line out and oil across the top of my head.
See picture.

I assuming this is a vacuum line for something but does anyone know why it would happen? Should i be doing something / installing something to prevent this.

Thanks, in advance.

This is the first time it has happened to me in about 3 years of tracking the car.

That would be your PCV valve, or Positive Crankcase Ventilation. It uses vacuum from your manifold to remove "stuff" from the crankcase.

Replace it would be my first step, it blowing out could mean it's clogged.

Replace the rubber grommet. Just be very careful. They flatten out and become brittle with age. They have a tendency to fall apart when being removed. If it has become brittle, it may be wise to remove the valve cover before doing this. Last thing you want is chunks of rubber to fall onto the valvetrain.

I see your car is RHD, where are you located?

So by rubber grommet you mean the rubber seal sitting in the valve cover? Would the grommet itself be the cause of the issue or is this a symptom of something else?
If i was to replace it, i would be replacing the entire bent plastic bit and the bit in the valve cover?

Also, anyone know a good way of cleaning up the oil from the valve cover? I was thinking of just spraying some degreaser and then rinsing it with water.

no 16 year old knows the a/s/l format. I would say with a fair amount of confidence that no one under 25 knows about that.
