Default Wheel Weight Differences

Hello S2kiers,

I am totally new to wheel weight. I've owned a civic that had rotas since I had never cared of being serious in the track.
Right now I'm selling a set of wheels that is basically not for s2k body (further modifications needed due to aggressive offset). I am thinking to get the Spoon CR93 staggered or the Enkei RPF1.

The following specs are:

Spoon CR93:
  • 17x8.5" weighs 19 lbs
  • 17x9.5" weighs 21 lbs
*source: crzforum.com

Enkei RPF1:
  • 17x9" weighs 15.65 lbs
*source: enkei.com

The RPF1 definitely weighs much less than the CR93.
My question is now, how disadvantageous is 4-6 lbs sounds to you guys in R&C section? The stock AP1 lacks of torque and if you add more wheel weight, it'll be more disastrous.
The s2k is my DD, but I'm planning to track with it 2-4 times next year.
Personally, I favor much more to the CR93s. The RPF1 is one of the over-used wheels, IMO.
Their price appear to be similar as well. Not only that but also the CR93s are discontinued.

Let me know what you think
Thanks

I have my doubts that in the hands of the average person reading this thread the same setup minus changes in wheels weights would result in any measurable lap time differences.

One thing to note: I'm not planning to achieve best lap time during track day.

Even for DD you'll notice the difference that your car becomes heavier if you upsize your wheel right?
Thats what I feel when I use 17x9.5 advan RS.

I'm gonna say that is all in your head. A placebo effect, you know its heavy therefore you think its slower.

You shouldn't.

Not exactly the same scenario as the one you're considering, but this is an informative read: http://www.caranddriver.com/features...d-tires-tested.

GRM figured this out a long time ago.

If anything find a solid wheel that can handle some abuse.

Close enough.

Key part being that the lighter Enkei wheels were slower, which isn't expected at all! Sure, if they were a tenth faster, that tenth decides jackets at the national level, but they were slower.
