When to proactively change tires?

When to proactively change tires?
I am at a decision point, I have 3yr old 8k mile RS3s on with 6 track days and ~40 autox runs, this will actually be their 4th season. I took a bit of time away from the car and it didn't see any track use/autox last year. I got to my first event in a while yesterday and am looking to do more, surprisingly the tires didn't feel terrible although they certainly were not 100%. I am not quite to the wear bars, but getting close in the rear. My next event is in a couple weeks and is a full weekend (100-120min track time each day). It is a track that I am not familiar with, plus just getting back in the seat I am just happy being out there and am not looking to chase times, so I was leaning toward getting 1 more weekend on the RS3s. My concern is going there and cording them the first day, although unless the track surface or the 3hr drive really takes a toll I don't see that happening. So what have you guys taken to aweekendin terms of worn tires?

I'd run them to the cords but if you're worried about not making a full weekend out of them buy something new and keep these laying around for a day you just want to beat something up on a familiar track

I'm in a similar boat. 4 year old RS3s with way too many heat cycles and some chunks missing from fender contact, but a little tread left still. I'm leaving them on for the next event and will see if I can squeeze a few more days after that.

It depends on what you want out of the tires. My BFG Rivals have about 7 track days and 6k street miles and sat outside for two winters. The fronts look OK but the rears are getting a a bit low on tread. They feel fine, but not as crisp as they were when new. I have no objective data to back that up. Ultimately they may be fine, but if I want max grip I may want to swap them out. When you compare the cost of a new set of tires compared to everything else that is spent to get your car on a track, it may make sense to swap them out for max performance.
What are you going to get?

Long answer is...it depends. Are you just doing HPDE? if so change the tires when you are ready to go faster. If you are in any kind of closely competitive series, change when the compound fall off would make you less competitive. The good news here is if you get out prudently a set of UHP street tires with 4-5 track days on them and the "fast" used up will still have TONS of spirited street miles left and you can often get 40% value back flipping them at the right time. There are miles of difference between someone who measures tire worth with a stopwatch and someone who measures it by feel. One mans trash.....
