Default Where to mount a track day camera?

I've got a bullet camera, with a proper clamp mount.

In my old car it was fine, headrest or rollcage would do fine.

However, in the s2000 I can't find anything to clamp it on to film.

Everything seems too plasticy (clamp squashes the plastic when you tighten it) or clamping down will ruin the car's plastic panels / head rests by crushing it.

I've seen loads of video's of s2000's on track, so guys how do you mount your cameras? what have you mounted it to? any pics of mounted cameras and positioning will be appriciated I'm on track in a day and a bit.

If you want the best picture from your bulletcam, you want it mounted up on the dash and/or windshield. Otherwise you end up with an overexposed white bar across the middle of the screen and half your pixels used up by a view of your roof and dashboard.

I have my datalogger display and main bullet cam mounted to a bracket on the dash. (Of course, this means I had to be willing to drill holes in my dash.) I've seen some nice windshield suction cup mount systems, too.

In this video the main screen shows the dash-mount view while the picture-in-picture screen shows a view from a mount on my roll bar (approximately where the windscreen would be if I still had the center compartment). You get an idea of what I mean about the oversaturation problem.

Can you mount a L-bracket with the visor mounting screw and clamp to that? A generic home depot L-bracket would probably work. I also considered using some small aluminum square tubing and drilling holes in it to match the rear wind deflector screws.

I made my own camera mount of of aluminum channel, 2 nylon pegs and some fender washers for insulation/dampening. I used a ball head mount from a tripod from circuit city for like $14.99. Including the ball mount, it was $20ish. The ball mount did wear out after like only 2 track days though lol. I'll buy a more durable one this time.

I put it in the holes for the windscreen. So if you have a windscreen...no drilling nessecary.

Works great.

BTW, it looks a LOT nicer than those pictures show. I repainted it after pre-fitting and cleaned the fingerprints/shavings off the compartment cover lol.

modifry also has a mount that goes back by where B-Serious made his. I have it and it works well and looks great. I think they even have a dual camera mount option... I should have gotten that one to keep my options open to mount something else there too.

Modifry has a windshield suction cup mount for pretty cheap. I got one for my track day last Friday and found out neither of my palm camcorders nor digital SLR fit. Should easily work with a bullet cam, though.

I have the same suction cup mount, and a windscreen mount that I use on occasion. I like the suction cup mount more. Its easier to operate, but can get in the way, visually, at times, depending on mounting location. I usually put it next to my data logger, low on the windshield.

I have the modifry secret compartment mount
its not the best place to mount for action shots but you can see what your hands are doing on the wheel so it helps me see how unsmooth I'm being!
