Default Why STR?

The STR thread got me thinking about the different reasons why STR is so popular this year.

Voted " I bought aftermarket wheels and that's the class I got put in", but technically I wouldn't even be in STR cuz I pulled my fenders ever so slightly...

Other:
STR allows for a number of modifications that you would want for an occasional track car.
I wanted slightly stiffer springs than came stock on the '06.
I'd rather spend my money on modifications than R-comp tires.

Uhhh, as far as I know, the 06 had the softest of the springs available through the years...

Anyway, I voted other. I wanted to modify the car and make it more fun to drive on the street and this was the perfect oppertunity.

Pssst. That's option choice #1.

Because all the cool kids are doing it

Honestly, tires are cheap and last all season, I wanted to have a "fast" street car that I can also race. I can tastfully mod the car. Its great fun to drive and very challenging to get right. Had a guy co-drive my car yesterday, he normally drives a 99 miata and said it was "a 37.5 second orgasm."

I really like the fact that STR is more of a class in which you drive to the course and get right to it without changing a thing and at the end of the day you drive the car right back home. I realize it isn't exactly quite like that but you don't see people dipping out with their R-comps still on the car. Plus I have no desire to have to invest in a second set of wheels and tires. I'd rather just replace tires a little more often and keep one set of wheels.

#1 can be read two ways:
I want to drive the car (in STR that) I race on the the street.
I want to drive the car I race (in STR) on the the street.

When I first read it I thought it was the first one.

. . .
Which is a good reason to want stiffer springs.
