Default Why we Race

There has been some discussion recently on sports radio/tv that racers are not athletes. Below is a link to a web page and video about F1, racers and why we do it. Great video. Racing is one of the only true sports.

F1 racers *may* be athletes, because they're in a car that pulls 4.5 Gs. The rest of us are not. I've seen plenty of guys with pot bellies at track days to back up my statement. :-)

Han taught me that the only acceptable reason to race is to get phone numbers from the ladies.

Hell yeah drivers are athletes. If you've ever driven near the limit for a period of time you'd agree. It takes a lot of focus and have to be physically fit to drive at the edge consitantly, competitively, and for long periods of time. It's like saying a quarterback isn't an athlete. All he does is throw the ball, and he's not even close to being the biggest guy on the field; however, there's more to it than that. Just like in driving

If you're lacking those skills you wont make the cut at higher levels of racing

Motorsport is the only sport you need 2 balls to play!

Who cares if they don't think you are an athlete

There's a big difference between a fat guy doing track days and a driver winning wheel to wheel races at any level.
