hmm...i'm assuming your R32 had stock gears or you would have mentioned otherwise? its interesting that you managed a quicker 0-60mph in the R32 than the S2000, considering the R32 requires two shifts (1st->2nd and 2nd->3rd) to get to 60mph with the stock gears, whereas the S2000 only requires one shift (1st->2nd). to be able to pull off a 5.4-sec. 0-60mph when most people struggle to get their R32's to 60mph in under 6 seconds (due to having to shift twice first) is hard to believe...i'm not calling BS, but i am skeptical - how much faith do you have in this "iPhone" software?

I really don't know how accurate the software is. According to their website is is off + or - hundredths of a second.

As far as shifting, there is no skilled required to shift the R32 it has a DSG transmission. So you can't compare my shifting skills between both vehicles.

I'm more interested in the comparison between my two vehicles then the actual times, which I do think are a little optimistic.

Yes I do have stock gears.

oops...i just realized we're talking about an MKV R32 (and not an MKIV R32)...

...i suppose its also possible that they gave the MKV R32 slightly taller gears than the previous generation, but i really don't know...

I think on the touch you have to download from itunes then transfer it to your ipod touch. Although the ipod touch can connect via wifi right?

Either way do a search on the itunes store for pocketdyno which is free or the + version (mine). There are several other apps that do the same thing. Dynolicious I think was the first one to come out.

If you are looking for a skin for you touch let me know. I have one still in the shipping package that I bought but ended up returning the touch and going with the iphone.

I also have one on my iphone, it basically covers the screen and case.

I was told that the gearing is short on the Mkv R32. Which would give it better low end speed. I don't know the gear ratios though.

Cool!

My buddy had the demo version, and it just uses a rough weight and peak acceleration to tell you the power. Because I shifted quick 2-3, it picked up the acceleration jerk and said i have over 500whp!! (I'm stock and at 4000 ft altitude)

That's poorer programming though, not a knock on the iPhone capability. And regardless, even if it was wrong it would probably be consistent.

To average 60 miles per gallon with an S2K, all I have to do is shift from 1st to 2nd gear? Dang. That's some crazy sh*t.

i understand perfectly the concept of using shorter gears for better low-end acceleration. the point i was trying to make is that, if one car is able to reach 60+ mph in 2nd gear, while the other car's gears are so short that a shift to 3rd gear is required to reach 60mph, that car will spend twice as much time off-throttle and twice as much time shifting as the car that was able to make it to 60mph in 2nd gear. hence the reason the MKIV R32's had such a poor 0-60mph time despite its power output.

but i realized after the fact that we're talking about an MKV R32, not an MKIV. so if in fact the gears in the MKV R32 are no taller than those in the MKIV R32, then the surprisingly quick 0-60mph time must be due to the much quicker shifting of the DSG transmission (in comparison to the MKIV R32's manual gearbox).
