Default 2000 AP1 vs XLR (Caddy)

was at a house warming party last night and met a guy there that had a XLR. Beautiful interior car and more luxury to boot, and we went out to take her for a spin and just get a nice feel for the car. The car pulled decent and like any other V8 you would think. After the little joy ride, I mentioned I'd like to (just for fun) run him and see how I compare. He was more than happy to have a run but wanted a good location for the run.

What I wanted to ask you guys is a ball park figure of what the outcome may be? I'm thinking I'll lose by a bit, but I'd like to make it as advantageous for me as possible. The XLR is totally stock and my AP1 is stock except for exhaust. I'll post more on the run once it happens.

Eskimomice,

This should be a pretty close race. Considering you get a good launch. Those cars are a little on the heavy side, so you have the weight advantage. Plus he's only sporting 320 hp, 310 lbft of torque, and an 5spd automatic tranny, v8 dohc 4.6 liter

I use to work at corvette, (they also build xlr's there) in bowling green ky, they're not all that fast. They're more of a luxury car. depending on driver they might reach 60 in under 6 seconds, and finish up the 1/4 mile in mid to high 14's. If it is an XLR-V then that's another story

So if you can launch and bang the gears you'll probably beat him is my guess.

Goodluck!

you'll take him. Its a low 6 second 0-60 car at best but more importantly, I would think that its a mid to high 14s car in the 1/4. If your competent in the S2k you should take him without any sweat.

the trap speed is of course higher than the average S2000 at around 102mph, but the ET is going to be around low 14's. I'd hesitate to say you'd take him, I'd say it'd be a close race, with the XLR puling up top. If you get a better launch and stay ahead, he'll still be passing you near the end, but you might pull it out. If he gets ahead, he'll probably stay there.

I'd say XLR's average trap speed is around 100 mph. A good driver in an S will pull from the start.

My cousin has one, i defintly think you have a chance. Like someone previously posted your launch will be most important.

hmm... what RPM do you guys who have experience lauching at with the best result? I've launched once at like 4500 RPM on warm tires and got a nice even start against my friend's AP2... would a run from a roll be a good idea or a bad one?

If you know how to launch well, then launch. If not, start from 15mph in 1st (NOT 2nd).
