Default 4.77 geared, all bolt ons...

lost to a 02-03 mustang GT, was loud as all hell and I'm assuming it had alot of motor work done, or gears himself. from a first gear roll in vtec to about the middle of 4th gear he was about a half a car to a car ahead of me and still pulling ever so slowly.

I murdered a friends 03 stock GT from a slow roll, so I knew this thing had to be modded. I don't think it was spraying, and it definately had no supercharger.

Kinda sucks... first mustang I race with the new gears and I wanted to annhilate.

Right after I got my gears (granted they are 457) I raced an 03 mustang with full boltons (the model with a trunk, lighter?) and we were dead even. After the race he told me that he was never full throttle but I think that was bs, who knows. The reality of this is that with the right combo of boltons that year range of mustang will run like hell so don't be discouraged.

GT's are only about 260 HP and somewhere around 300 ft lbs. (The older Gt's). I am not sure about the Cobras and Saleens

99-04 Mustang GT's make 260hp @5250, 302 lbs-ft @4000 torque, weigh ~3250 lbs. (coupe). 1/4 mile ETs from 13.7 or so, trap 98-100.

2005+ Mustang GT's make 300hp @5750, 320 lbs-ft @4500 torque, weigh ~3500 lbs. (coupe). The new 3 valve heads shift the powerband 500 rpm higher. The new body adds ~250 lbs. and 40 hp. They tend to run the same or slightly faster ET's but trap 4-5 mph faster. Basically, from a stop they are roughly the same as the 99-2004 cars, but from a roll will tend to be faster. Worse aero than the 99-04's aerodynamically and heavier, but whatever LOL

2005+ Saleen S281 makes 330hp, 340 lbs-ft torque. Your basic minimal bolt-ons plus maybe 100 lbs. of crap (new seats, wheels, big brakes, HID lights, and some exterior plastic).

2005+ Saleen S281 SC makes 435hp, 425 lbs-ft torque.

2005+ Saleen S281 E makes ~550hp, ~480 lbs-ft torque.

Don't be discouraged. a low tech 4.6 litre can be made really really fast with some bolt ons and light tuning.

Enjoy the 4.77s, they effing rock. How do you like them so far?

BTW I bet you could have taken him to 40mph or so on a good launch

what's low tech about an overhead cam V8? Oh, right, Ford was making them in the 60's Nothing low tech about an overhead cam V8 that isn't low tech about an overhead cam 4 banger, IMHO. Hell, the new 3-valve 4.6 SOHC engines even have variable cam timing, instead of the low tech VTEC Honda uses.

Don't get me wrong, I like the S2000, but the VTEC system is hardly state of the art these days.

50 hp/litre isn't low tech to you? I wasn't bashing the motor, I was just stating the obvious. With engine internal upgrades, bolt ons, and fuel tuning you can actually get those huge motors up to par and make some serious power. The engineering on the car in general is low tech, that's the point I was making. Most car companies will "slap on an airbox and filter" and have no engineering whatsoever into actually making power.

The Mustang with upgrades can be made into a monster very easily.
