Default '99 Mustang GT

A guy in a 35th anniversary GT (were thos 99 or 00? I can't remember) had been making it clear he wanted to see what I could do. From the sounds of it (and the look of his car) he'd done a little work to it, at least an exhaust. When things were right, he started a roll-on with me at 40, I was in 4th and didn't bother to downshift until he was a full car length up on me. I caught up to his rear bumper before we shut down (~60). A couple more quick spurts and we came upon a stop sign.
I hate stop signs - I never know when to launch , and this time was no different. He launches first and is fully over the line before I get moving, needless to say I got a crummy launch. By the time I hit 6k in 1st, he had about 1/2 a car length on me, but by the time I hit 9k, we were dead even After that it was all over, a slight lag on my 1-2 upshift (why oh why aren't 1&2 a tad closer?) and I start pulling on him, and by the time I shift into 3rd I've got him by 2-3 car lengths.
Now, I know this isn't a spectacular kill, but what happens next is the reason I'm posting this - at the next stop sign he looks over at me and says "Thanks for the lesson". Pretty classy for a 20 year old kid in a pimped out mustang (oh yeah, did I mention the yellow neon chassis lights?)

Did the Mustang have an artificial transmission or a 5spd? '99 & up GTs can do 13.9/100 MPH 1/4 mile bone stock, so I'm a little surprised you dispatched him so handily at lower speeds. Perhaps those neon chassis lights are too big a drag on his alternator...

Regardless, it's nice that he was cool about it. Too many people aren't.

Nice kill!, exactly what should have happened.

I said it before and I'll say it again, S2K's will take any year Mustang GT stock.

Funny. I had a young guy in a new GT convertible trying to catch up to me and then just get ahead of me in traffic today. Don't know what point he was trying to prove but once we got to an open stretch of highway along with a new Z28 that had cuaght up to us asl, I left them both in the dust.

On my way home yesterday I ran across a guy in a late 70's Trans Am and he was trying to show of for the chick in his car by revving it up while I was behind him at a stop light. Besides having to breathe in a huge amount a fuel vapor since his carb was obviously not working to well, his car didn't do much more after that When the light turned green, we both made a right turn and he tried to haul ass but his car didn't do what he wanted it to so I pulled next to him, glanced over, and then waved by by.
