This is an interesting thread. I am surprised to read of so many s2000s keeping pace with a 996TT. Perhaps I am just niave, but I thought even SC s2000s are high 12s (perhaps mid 12s), whereas stock 996TTxs are low 12s - high 11s. How fast are these s2000s that are running even with 996TTs and what mods do they have?
FWIW, Ive stomped countless Z06s and a few s200s as well.

Base kit S/C S2k is around M3/996-911 speeds.
Comptech's S2k was tested at 13.3@108
Turbo S2k might be a different story.
Highly boosted S/C might be a different story.

somebody else run a z06, i want to know if this is scenario is played out again, fyi i would bet he had an aftermarket exhaust based on the sound, because if it was stock it sounded incredible

The math here makes sense too. Stock Z06's are putting down 360ish with up around 400 at the rear wheels with just a header/exhaust/tune combo. Not bad when you consider 02's have now dropped into the high 20's without warranty and very low 30's with a warranty.

Aerodynamics might come into play and as such the 911 might run away after 150 or so --

I have a theory that 911s are better in traffic because the rear weight bias allows the driver to point the front of the car and then use power to change directions, making for quicker lane changes. According to this theory, cars with front weight bias aren't as maneuverable because the front wheels have to move the weight of the engine. I'm not likely to get a chance to drive a 911 and test the theory, though - of the 911 owners in this thread want to comment?

its weird
out of all the expensive sports cars i run across, usually 911 owners are very cool and willing to run a little and always leave with a thumbs up and a smile
i always thought they would be a lil stuck up

If you want to really have an aerodynamic advantage, run against a C5 at night. I expect that when the headlights are exposed, they act like parachutes up front.
