Almost Got Owned
I was at a labor day thing today and a friend who has never been in my car asked for a ride, so he hops in and we go. I get on it a bit on a back road, take it up into 5th and then we turn on to a highway. I get on it again and take it up to into 5th again, we pull pass a semi on who is in the right lane and are closing fast on another car in the right. Just then my "spidey" senses kick in and something just does not fell right, so I get out of it, at about the same time I see the car we were closing on (still about 300-feet ahead) check the brakes. Without any thought I hammered the brakes, as my speedo closes on speeds closer to the legal limit a cop hiding under a bridge about 1000 feet ahead comes into veiw. All I can think is, "I am screwed". As we get closer, to my suprise he is still out of the car, door open, laser in hand (I fully expected him to be in the car ready to take off after me). As we drive pass I, he had the laser down to his side, hand on his hip and was staring us down hard core (I made eye contact, giving him this sheepish look
), and he had this completely pissed off look on his face.
The only thing I can think is that he saw me closing fast and could tell we were moving, but tried to hit me with his radar from in the car. At that point I was next to the semi, and those radar systems tend to have issues in situations of hitting a small car next to a larger car (it seems to want to ge the larger vehicle). So having no luck hitting us with the radar, he grabbed the laser gun, which is much more accurate and quickly jumped out of the car. By that point I was slowing/had slowed to normal speeds.
Needless to say we went back home after that close call. 10 years, only been pulled over once, and never issued a ticket, the streak continues, but man was it close to ending in a bad way.

Congrats on getting lucky, I guess.
