Default Another AP2

Today was a beauityful day, about 85 and not a cloud in the sky. So I decided to take a drive down to the beach and see what was going on down there...just so happens that on the way there a yellow 04 is riding with his top down enjoying the day also. We pull up next to eachother and nod to one another as to say nice car. We both get cought at a light and I complemented him on how much I love the yellow paint and the new bumpers...he followed with a few compliments of his own and asked what year S I had (00). The light goes green and we roll out and at about 45ish in 2nd he asks me if I wanted to give a go...of coarse I wasen't about to let this oppertunity slip away so I agree and were off...(by the way both S's sitting in VTEC at 45 in 2nd sounds orgasmic) As soon as I hear/see him step down I followed and right away I start inching, by the time I had to shift to 3rd he was 1/2 a car behind, then all through 3rd I kept slowly pulling away, I hit 4th and then I see him give up and let off. I had about a car in total from 40-100ish. The guy was probally in his late 20's and a real nice guy who afterwards asked me where I got my exhaust cause he loved the tone. Good fun race with a nice guy that had a happy ending for me.

00-03 is faster than 04... 04 is faster than the 00-03

i guess we'll never know for sure.. looks like every situation is different

It's so close that it's simply just a driver's race.

Sure can't wait till these '04's get a bit more mileage on them. It's not fair to make a comparison between one S with low mileage vs. one that has been broken in over 10's of thousands of miles. Who knows how many miles that '04 had, but it was probably much less than yours.

In VTEC it is close, but I have personally conducted a little test with an AP1 from a low RPM (2k) in 3rd gear up to redline and my '04 pulled over a car length before having to go into the next gear. Once both of us were in VTEC though, we were even. Sometimes me pulling inches ahead and sometimes he was pulling inches ahead. Of course he had over 30k miles and I had about 4k. I think most of this is due to the fact the '04 has to shift more often with the new gearing and lower redline.

Even with two cars of the same year, one may pull harder than the other.

If that S only had 1500 miles on it then it has not been broken in so you had a big advantage..

PilotKD, yes the 04's might be a lot faster from 2k roll in 3rd gear, but what idiot is going to race someone from 2k rpm in 3rd gear? If i was racing a 04 and i was around 2k rpm in 3rd, i would obviously downshift to 1st and be at highest rpm possible, why would any idiot try racing from 2k rpms? but like i said, you are right about the 04 not being broken in so maybe that was the reason the 00 won. And since you tested both 04s against 00-03 from vtec and it is very close, obviously the 00-03 and the 04's are a driver's race when it comes from a roll.

But when racing at a light, i am not sure, probably the 04's will be a little faster. From a roll though, i have confidence my 01 can hang with the 04's because i have test driven an 04 and after reading all the ap1 and ap2 races and they're all different outcomes, i am pretty confident it will definitely be a close race. I still want to test drive an 04 after it has atleast 7k miles though, because the one i drove only had 100 miles and from the freeway it did not feel as fast as mine, but i'm sure after it's broken in it is a different story.

Anyways, blessed, GOOD KILL!!! i'm still looking for an 04 to race, or even an 00-03. When i see s2k's in arizona they're always going the opposite way, and once i tried racing one, but he didn't want to run. =(
