Default Another E36 M3

Last time I raced one, it was in the twisties. This time, it was a test of straight line performance since, on paper, we're pretty close.

He's sitting at a stoplight as I pull up. I mind my own business and he revs me. I look over and say "wanna run?" and he replies "hey, why not!". So as the protected left turns go, I rev up to 7000 and he gettin' ready too. Light turns green and I just drop the clutch. I'm feathering the throttle trying to get her to hook up. At about 8000rpms I'm ahead by about 1/4 cars but when I shift at 9000rpms into second I'm gone. We get to the next light and he missed second! Doh! With the way things were going after 1st, though, he knew I would've won. It was fun...

Good kill!, E36 M3's are great cars, but there was no question that you would have won, even if he didn't miss 2nd. Gotta love that 4 banger!!

You guys are full of it! I will race a local stook to prove that they are even cars (assuming you know how to launch your stook)

i'm gonna have to agree with this one. not saying a s2k couldn't beat an M3 that badly, but it shouldn't be nearly as common or easy as some of these posts suggest. the M3 is a hell of a lot easier to drag han the s2k - even a monkey could launch one - and the acceleration numbers are very close on paper. just kinda strange so many people are raping M3's.

At least there's one person here on this board that is reasonable. I have beat stooks in the past, but I would never say any of them were kills. It really comes down to the launch which is easy for the M3. Gobs of torque.

Easy there maddog (heh, I've been waiting to say that :-).

These guys are not full of it. As you've pointed out, these two cars are very evenly matched and the launch is critical. Obviously the S2K got the better launch this time, which means he almost certainly would have won provided nobody screwed anything up.

A statement like "With the way things were going after 1st, though, he knew I would've won" or "but there was no question that you would have won, even if he didn't miss 2nd" are not in error in this case. The original poster even said that on paper things are close. And no one is exactly raping the M3's. Sure, the one guy pulled on a convertible, but they weigh more anyways.
