Raced an E36 M3 with my Silverado...
So, I leave the gym this past Saturday and I'm just cruising down a local road here in Las Colinas (DFW). I see an E36 M3 coming up from behind pretty fast and he's slicing and dicing through traffic. He sounds like he has an exhaust, because it sounds pretty loud.
He gets caught at a light and I pull up beside him, we're both in front and we have a long straightaway ahead. He has his music blasting and I can tell his just itching to take off again as soon as the light turns green. I don't give him any indications that I'm going to run, but based on the way he's been driving to that point, I knew he was going to take off.
Light turns green and I just floor my truck. Winding through about 50mph in 1st gear he's at my rear quarter panel. As soon as my truck shifts to second, I start losing some steam and he's creeping on me at this point. I shut down at about 65mph with about 5 feet on him. He continues ripping down the road. We hit another light and he waves me alongside. I pull up next to him and roll down my passenger window. He yells out, "that truck has some balls" I say 'thanks, but your car is definitely faster." He responds, "Well, you definitely had me at the line."
In summary, I thought it was pretty funny that a 90mph trap speed truck can keep a 100mph trap speed car at bay with a good launch at lower speeds. I kind of noticed the opposite one time when I was playing with a six-speed G35 Coupe on the highway when I was in my C5. I would pull away from him pretty easily, but I certainly wasn't disappearing on him. That kind of bummed me out at the time because I figured I should just disappear into the night against a 'slow' G35 Coupe.
Oh well, nothing a Ligenfelter 427TT wouldn't fix.

My 5.3L Silverado 2WD, extended cab with a Magnaflow cat-back and AEM Brute Force air intake, ran a 14.9 at 91mph. It's an '04 295hp model. She runs pretty good for a pick-up.
It's certainly not as fast as an E36 M3, but I got the jump on him and it took him longer than I thought it would to reel me back in.
