AP1 Vs. bmw 645 Cl
it was either a 645 Ci or 645 CL
hardtop with his wife/GF in the car. we get stopped at a light and he looks back at me for a second. i see his wife shake her head no. i didnt think he was gonna go so when the light turned green i didnt launch. just let out the clutch and floor it. he hammers it and in the time it took my revs to find 6k he put about a car and a half on me. once VTEC came in it was all over. i left him like he was standing still.
ok not really. once i hit 6k i stopped his pull and we stayed exactly the same with me 1.5 cars back till 110 where i let off. i so wished i had my 3000gt
the more and more i drove this thing im impressed by it though. i actually got a tiny 4th gear chirp out of in on this race. baby shiftyed second cause the grind issue but got a fat 3rd gear scratch.

Car and Driver has 645 0-60 at 5.6 and 1/4 mile at 14.2 at 100mph. So, its sounds pretty even to me.
for referance C&D lists the 91 stealth TT as 5.2 0-60 and 14.0@98 in the 1/4
when mine was stock (91 3000gt VR4. slightly heavier than a stealth. i own both) i went 13.72@99.68 mph in the 1/4
C&D is known for having horrible performance stats on cars they test.
more bench/magazine racing? ok.
motor trend.
AP2
0-60 5.8
1/4 14.19@99.9
BMW 645Ci
0-60 5.4 (BMW est)
road and track
only able to find 14.1@99 for an AP1
only found 13.7 for a 645.

Whatever, all I'm saying is they are in the same ballpark if both stock. The reason for the variances, especially for the S2000 is on the launch. I rather doubt most magazine test drivers are revving to 6k and dropping the clutch, redlining in each gear etc. Also, tempature and altitude play a role as well, if one mag is testing on a giving 65 degree day vs another at 80-85 then their would certainly be a variance.
My only personal experience with a similar car a 750i was on route 90 outside of Chicago. He was in the far left lane after the tolls heading north, he punched it and I stayed right behind him catching up, he continues going and gets to the right lane and continue to slowly go by him up to about 130 probably had about 5 cars, but I think he quit a little before then.
Relatively fast and if I didn't have my gears it would have been about even I think or I may slighly lose. So, I'm not trying to mag race, just trying to add a little insight that the 2 cars aren't that far apart. You could take 20 S2000s and 20 different drivers and they would have probably a minimum of 1 second difference in the 1/4 mile times of the worst to the best. I've seen 13.7 by some and 14.7 by others. So a difference from one mag to another of .2-.3 seconds is minimal and should be expected. Its not like they are out their all day trying to get the best time, they do a couple of runs and call it a day.
Good luck, and I look forward to running a 645 if I ever get a chance.

If you'd launched, you MIGHT have been able to keep up.
