Default AP1 vs. Evo SE

So I saw this Evo SE get off the freeway with exhaust. I caught up directly behind him and he saw me behind him. A few times he would gun it and Id try to catch up to him. It seems my 1st and 2nd gear are able to keep up with him, but when he was in 3rd and 4th, he took off!!! How fast are the SE's compared to the other Evo's? We were never able to get a red light together cuz they all stayed fricken green and some cars were around us.

Yeah, but the SE is a 5 speed...I test drove one like a month ago for a whole day with my buddy who works over at the dealership. And honestly, for the $36,000 they were asking...They can keep it! Maybe if it was $28-30k...But IMO, it's overpriced, especially after seeing the interior. (Other then the seats) Just my opinion though..

He probly had few mods. Drop about 1300 bucks in it and you are talking about 320whp easy.
SE is way to go but 36 is too much, I wouldt pay more the 34

sounds like the Evo was stock, but 1st and 2nd couldn't pull much cuz of the lag in 1st gear IMHO.

my IX has about 320whp and it isn't close with an n/a s2000 even in the first 2 gears without launching...

good run though

south coast mitsu is letting the SE's go for pretty cheap. and i agree $36,000 is too much for an Evo SE; all it has is some red stitching on the seats and steering wheels etc on the inside, and i think aluminum roof, and new BBS wheels, everything else is the same.

Oh dang, I thought lag was based on RPMs not speed.
Yeah, lauching in awd is awesome, my friend took me for a drive and when he launched it I was slammed against the seat.
I raced STI in my Z 0-80 and he launched about 2 cars on me with no sweat and by the time we shut down he was still 2 cars ahead of me
Oh, doesnt SE have HID and IX doesnt?

First off, its a IX SE, not one or the other.

Yes, lag is RPM and gear based. I'll lag a little off the line in first, and if I'm granny shifting in second. If I blip the throttle a bit though, I'm a bullet. And god help you if I'm in 3rd already rolling

The SE changes are mostly cosmetic, nothing different performance wise.

The IX's are a bit different than the Evo VIII. Unless you've got a supercharger or the guy can't drive, your much pretty hosed. Unlike the 04-06 STI's with their tiny turbo's (great off the line, choke on top) the Evo's lag a bit unless they launch, but it doesn't last long and they don't have any problem on the top end. The IX's turbo is good for around 400whp and has no problem providing power throughout the whole rpm range . Stock for stock, the Evo IX is faster from a stop or a roll than the s2k.

I'd volunteer to prove it, but I'm not even close to stock anymore.

(modified for numerous grammar errors... left a few for fun though)

well starting the car off in 1st gear without launching your rpm can't be really high....as with most turbo'ed cars goin at WOT at 5-10mph is not very ideal because of the lag
