In other words no lag in STi and some lag in evo. Evo has better top end theoretically speaking and the STi should not be as good b/c of the smaller turbo VF39. Even though... I haven't really had any problem with modified Evo 8's, even in the high end. The only evo I did have a problem with had way more stuff then just a turboback, tune, and reflash. LOL. he had meth, upgraded fmic, cams, and so on all on the stock turbo. I only kept up with him in 2nd and 3rd gear which we were dead even. After that he pulled on me. 
oh well... can't win them all. I'm proud of my Stage 2 STi, torque is what has helped me beat a lot of cars from the get go. Lets just say tuning is everything.... for any F/I car.

if i were to get an Evo or an STi it would definately be the Evo IX. Sti doesnt even have a sunroof, not to mention its usually easier to make power with the Evo. cams are a common upgrade in the Evo community whereas usually only the built STi's have cams; atleast from what I'VE seen

ran my friend's stock evo IX se. its 6 speed..... with my 4.77 gears and intake,exhaust. im ahead just half a fender from 30mph to 110mph.
sux i put $2000 on my S and only as fast as a stock evo IX.

SE's aren't 6 speeds...
I find it strange whenever people speak of lag in the IX's. I admit that the lag can be horrible at times, but those times are only when taking off really slow. All it takes is a little adjustment in your driving style and you'll probably never see it again. Taking off with the A/C on exaggerates the lag though.
Also, whatever it takes for an S2k to trap 105mph is what it will take for one to even just tie with an Evo IX with an ok driver. I tied in a race with my Evo IX in my S2k once, but that was with my old mother driving the Evo.
