Default AP2 vs an RX8 6spd manual

A friend of mine had just come back from overseas for 1 mth or two and he surprised me with his latest buy, a manual RX8. (we used to touge together, he with a 2.5L 03 STI and me with a 2.2L 94 wrx) He hadn't been around for a while and so was pretty excited to see my current AP2.

On the way to a cruise rendezvous point, he was pretty eager to rev it up and go thru corners but it was easy keeping up. I didn't worry too much since I figured a stock RX8 wouldn't be too much trouble. (he did have a custom exhaust but that seemed it)

Later at the meetup, he suggested we go somewhere open and race it. We left the meet and lined up at a rather empty road. Twice from a roll, I took him 1/2 car lengths to 100kmh (both of us from first). Then from a second run, he was in first and i was in 2nd, he took off but i gained and passed him by 2 lengths by the time he hit 140.

He signalled me to stop and said he didn't wanna run anymore. Then he revealed that he knew my car was definitely way faster since his RX8 was actually supercharged! He told me he had a roots type supercharger besides the exhaust. I told him that i never heard the whine (or maybe i did but didnt think it was S/C). He congratulated me and headed home with no hard feelings, nice guy that he is.

Wow, would of expected better from the rx8 being supercharged. Your friend should get his money back.

hmm that sucks for him. I wonder what s/c system he has. He bought the wrong car if he wants to mod it, but i am sure its still great for mountain runs.

yeah i felt kinda bad cos i knew he would be down (regardless of his smile) if he did up a car and it didn't go like he thought it would. In fact, his previous STI also disappointed him similarly as the car wasn't as fast as the shops told him it was despite the wads of cash he'd spent. Pretty sad.

i dunno why the rx8 wasn't moving. i mean all i have is a j's titanium dual fx 70rs. Still got my cat in too. I've raced with another ap2 with the same setup and fujita and that guy put 1 car on me solely in 3rd gear. so that would mean he would take my fren's rx8 down easy!

Sounds good to me, as I already have the Fujita, Hondata Toda flash, Amuse exmani, waiting on the Js 70RS dual to arrive and will be picking up Berks hi-flo cat here very soon. I still don't feel the car is as quick as my old Teggy was, I think it's the poor 4.1 gearing(4.7 stock on the Teggy) and extra almost 400lbs of weight doing it.

Nice kill, even moreso with your mate being FI. Is it possible his tune is complete crap? Well of course that is possible, he should have it looked into (not to take away from you winning).

I remember C&D or motortrend tested a turbocharged Rx8 and it still only ran high 13's?

Thks! But i have a sneaky feeling it might be the tune of the RX8 that gave me the edge.

The 70RS duals free up plenty of top end from the way i feel it.

stock rx8's trap low to mid 90mph...i guess the SC only added 1-3mph

they look great though, i really want to get one and swap a LS2/3/6 into it.
