Default auto 350z on freeway is slow

Traveling along the freeway just cruising along and I pass up a silver 350z. I'm just cruising along and next thing I know the 350z is right next to me. From the look of it all he had were rims. He takes off then slows down and does this a couple of times. I'm in no mood to race but when he cuts into my lane and slows down I was like f it.
He punches it because I could see some thick smoke billow out of the exhaust tails and so I shift into fourth and chase. I beat him by at least 2 cars when he shut down so I decide to mess with him. We race one more time with same outcome. He puts his hands out the window and pulls over to the far right lane.

I don't know...it had to have been an auto because I started from behind.

its very possible that its a stock 6 spd that didn't have a skilled driver. well-driven stock Z's and S's get similar 1/4 mile times/trap speeds (high 13s/low 100s). good kill.

wasn't really black smoke...more of a greyish cloud.
I've test driven the 350z because I considered buying it before the S and It "felt" faster than the S

ive driven both auto and manual Z33's and the autos seem way slower than the stick shift..ive taken out auto 350's and G35's easy...nevertheless nice kill on a V6, 3.5 liter...

takes a little bit of experience with the car to pick the right gear, and know when to shift and how to do so quickly.

it takes more skill than you think. if 2 identical cars are highway racing and one of them is consistently shifting a couple hundred RPMs before redline while the other shifts at redline, or if one is shifting slowing than the other, the outcome will be affected in the better/faster shifter's favor.

and to the OP - of course the Z is gonna feel faster than the S, thats what torque does.

My mistake...guess there is a lot of morons around who doesn't know when to shift.Just thought it was way too easy to just shift when you get to redline.
