I've raced one here in Seattle. I forgot to post what happened. Silly me.

i have raced a Boxster S from a roll (about 15MPH or so) up to 110 - 120mph getting on one of our toll roads. It was pretty much uphill and he had his top up, mine was down.

I was surprised that I kept with him neck and neck. He may have had the steptronic (manual-auto tranny), and his car was very new (didn't have plates yet) but I thought he would have pulled on me.

As I recall, most published stat's have the Boxster S doing 60 in the low to mid 5's. The quarter mile comes up in low to mid 14's. Some tests are faster, some are slower.

Road & Track had a great article earlier this year comparing the Boxster S, S2K, M roadster and TT quattro cabrio called modern gladiators. In it the much more expensive Porsche was a near tie with the S2K in almost every test. On the track, the S2k even managed to post faster times and slightly higher avg. speeds.

The difference, as I recall it, was that the race car driver that was piloting the cars around the track (Steve Millen maybe?) said the S2k was a sharper tool but as such, it could really hurt the novice. In other words, the Boxster S was easier to make go fast.

As well it should be for nearly twice the cost.

My dad has one and we've gone to 120 from a rolling start a couple times and each time we were dead even.

Great car. Too quiet. Wouldn't mind having one.
