my friend just bought a boxster and i've put it to shame 4 times already. he is quite dissapointed. I thought these things were fast.

 

nope, they're slow. they're ugly. they're expensive. they're heavy.

and you can't even see the damn engine

 

Sounds like your friend should have done his research before he bought the car - he just bought a regular model rather than the Boxster S?

Some of you people mystify me.

If an LS1 f-body guy came in here bangin on the S for being slow, expensive and a yuppie toy, there'd be a mountain of responses that ranged from "well, the S2000 isn't a drag race car" to "yea, but we got you beat in the twisties" (you don't, btw) to "but its much better built" to "its on the cutting edge of technology"... ad nuseum. There'd be 10 pages of excuses piled up to avoid admitting that for the same money you could have gone way faster. Don't deny this, because I've read them.

But yet, some of you whip on the Boxster like a red-headed step child. I don't believe I've read a single kind word for it here. Over priced, under powered... yadda yadda. Suddenly, the closet f-body owner in you comes out. Power/performance per dollar now applies ---but just not for your car, huh?

It'd be nice if you could try to maintain even the appearance of being consistent.

I'm not asking anyone to love the Boxster. Yes, I agree, it is about 10k over priced. But its qualities (and there are many) are not measured in terms of numbers and figures. I think its a great car, and a great Porsche. This does not make anyone who can afford one uniformed or an idiot.

One could criticize NSX in the same way.
