ya thats true...chipped turbo rides do make a big difference...i have a 03 audi a4 1.8t...the thing was sluggish when stock..running 170 hp/166 lbs tq(i think totally underpowered car for its weight class) i chipped/intake/exhaust/dp and it boosted about 225 at the crank and 235 lbs tq...makes huge difference now..chipped/reflashed ecu adds about 40hp crank alone...but remember your s2k is stock....look at when i raced my friends wrx mine was stock and his was just basic mods...imagine if u did same mods to your ride...cai/exhaust/testpipe/headers/vafc i think u probabely have a chance..pretty much vice versa

With a full catless turboback+uppipe, intake, and a reflash/EM, the WRX will gain at least 40 whp. The tune is very important. For example I know this STi had a full turboback/mbc/inj./fuel pump and it was making about 230whp untuned. After he slapped on a UTEC and got it tuned, it was making 290whp!!

The S on the other hand, even if you do the test pipe/catback, intake, header, vafc.., you'll be lucky if get 20whp.

ya i guess turbo cars do have more gains from simple mods compare to the s2's na engine...but remember the weight difference too..2800 lbs vs the 3100 lb wrx so it might equal out who knows....buddy was telling me about camshafts on a s2...he thinks the other bolt ons don;t add that much which is true but he experienced friends s2 added camshafts he said the thing haws after....i wouldn't mind tryiing

Yah the weight advantage def. will come in to play, which is why stock for stock the WRX will only be able to stay ahead of the S probably to the end of 2nd cause of the 4WD. After that, bye bye WRX. But if the WRX has about 240whp which is very possible with those mods, it'll take a while for the S to catch it(if it even can).

I hear the cams can make decent power, I guess if you're staying NA you could always do ITBs.

ya the 240 whp for a wrx is like a stock sti pretty much....10 whp more even...so ya the s2 will have a hard time keeping up if it can

Good race! I'm KLN's brother and I've been waiting for a rematch between the two of us. Like he said, when I was Cobb stg1 he was able to beat me by a car or so but we haven't had the chance to race since I've upgraded to a stg2. Cobb stage 2 is rated at approx 265hp to the crank and about 225whp. I think it will be a pretty good race. I'm sure if it were a highway run we'd still be neck and neck... the tiny stock turbo loses it's breath above 80mph.

On a side note, I just raced my brother's friend that has an 01 6spd m3. We went a few times from a 20mph roll (he was too chicken to do it from a stop). I knew he'd beat me but just not by how much. He was able to put a little more than a car length on me up to about 85mph. I have a lot of respect for those cars but that will all change with a turbo upgrade
