Default sti and 350z

im a noob and i decided to share a couple runs..on the way to a friends house an sti with exhaust and a BOV from what i can hear spots me and so i decide to see how much i can keep up by.. we go from about a 30 mile run with me in first gear and i also think he was in first.. by the end at around 80 he had only pulled a quarter length on me and we stayed even... i thought they were faster then that? later on in the day i met my friend with a 350z with injen intake and injen exhaust.. we decided to go have a couple runs and the first run we started in 2nd at about 35 miles and by the end at 90 he had pulled about half a car on me.. the 2nd run we started at around 25 and he had pulled a car on me.. i thought they were both pretty close races considering im stock!

An Sti with a catback probably should have put 1-2 cars on you by ~100. With a full turboback it should have been more, but only with a good driver/shifter. The 6 speed on the Sti sucks, it is really hard to get into gear and the gearing is crap.

Nice runs

Run them again, this time make sure your top is up, you have a 1/8 tank of gas, there's nothing in the trunk and no passengers, and drop the clutch on them (if you're doing the 3 honks, hit the clutch and floor the gas on the 2nd honk, then drop the clutch on the 3rd. Get the timing down so you don't bounce off the rev limiter).

Anyways, doing this you should edge out the STI and beat the Z!

hmmmz not sure about the Z on the highway... but if u say so. weight will almost make no difference once the speed is up there.

you should've been in first at both 25 and 35mph, you would've beaten or ended up even with the Z.

I dont know where you got that the 6 speed in the sti sucks, and how it is hard to get into gear. Thats not true. it isn't very hard at all. Have you ever driven one. If you did maybe the one you drove was jacked up, cause ive been in quite a few and never thought they sucked at all.

the sti was probably in second gear at 30 mph....its pointless to put it in 1st when peak power is at 5500 and peak torwue is at like 4500

I test drove an 04, in which the box felt difficult to get into gear. I have also seen other STI owners on this site complain that changing gear is like trying to get a gorilla through a turnstile. Also heard complaints tha 1st is way too short.

Just going by what I have heard from several different sources

Still think a lightly modded STI should edge out the S

Just my 02 cents

The STI gearbox is not that bad (not up to the ease of use standard that the S2000 is but not much else is either). Gearing is great for autoX, but not as good for just accelleration. The STI should have pulled a little (the blowoff was probably SLOWING the STI) since they can easily get 20+HP form simple downpipe/turbo back exhaust swaps.

350z might have a little advantage from a roll if the S2000 is not right in the powerband when they go.

Both of these are drivers races to a large extent.
