Default Cobalt SS vs S2000

I was driving to work this morning, a little rain still on the ground. It's been such crappy weather for Chicago lastly. Extremely humid. I pulled up to a new looking Cobalt SS. Him and I alone on a long stretch of road. The kid seemed younger, I would say mid 20's. I left the light with a slow roll. I hung in 1st to see if he wanted to play.... He did :-) The Cobalt got a jump on me about half a car before I could react. He stayed the half a car lead until top of 3rd and a bit of 4th where I started creeping on him. We started to come up to traffic so we had to shut it down. I was impressed, didn't realize he was Supercharged until I seen the badge on the side. I ran with my A/C on, not sure how big of a difference that makes. Also with the hardtop on and windows up. so + 40 lbs for me. Full tank of gas. Only mods for me so far is a Apexi GT exhaust.

After the run he motioned to roll down the window. Said how much he loved S2000's. He wanted one. He asked what engine and wanted to know why the new s2000's look so ugly.. AP1 FTW :-)

Hopefully the little run will push him to buy an s2k. After looking at some Cobalt forums I'm pretty sure he wasn't stock. Those things get quick from little mods,

Any thoughts?

They are pretty close to the S stock for stock. I remember seeing a 98mph trap speed in a magazine which is about what the S does. I'd bet that he was stock. Nice run.

They are pretty quick out of the box but nice run. You had the A/C on... so you got to race in a comfortable manner and still win... hehe.

for around 700 bux, you go from 205 hp 200 lbf to 245 ish Hp / 230 lbf and redline to 7000

Stage 3 allow for 100 shot or changes in octane and adjustable rpm from 6750 to 8000 rpm by using the gas pedal to set points before start of car

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Cobalt

that's only ECU, injectors and pulley... start dumping money in exhaust etc etc...

So yes, they have nice turnkey options.

The a/c is belt driven by the crank. Can you back up your statement ? FYI, i lost 10 whp with the a/c on full blast.

I thought I remembered reading you will always lose HP when the A/C is on.. I wasnt thinking quick enough to turn it off..

Wonder if the outcome would of been the same..

the AC compressor is on a clutch and automatically disengauges at a certain rpm or TP.

ive honestly never had a cobalt ss come close to me in any kind of roll...but then again all you have is an exhaust so get modding to beat them
