Dusted by a black Miata
Just raced with a black turbo Miata. I know because I saw its intercooler and I heard its BOV. It was fast!
I raced it on 237 in Milpitas,CA. We nailed it at the same at around 70. He jumped 1 car ahead of me immidiately... may be he was at a better power band in his 3rd gear?
He pulled harder and he was about 5 cars ahead of me when I reacd 120.
Doed anyone one how much HP a turbo Miata makes?
BTW, mine is all stock

I thought our cars are pretty light too? With 240+ HP, it should be very hard to get beaten by 5-6 cars length from 70-120mph. I was so surprised to get dusted by that little Miata! It was so embarassing and my friend (my passenger) is still laughing at me
Turbo Miata's are quick but not that fast, I raced one on 237 (red) from a roll at about 58 to 130 I was 1 and a 1/2 car length's in front, we talked aftwards and it was pretty nice.
But... you may have been up against a Monster Miata.
The Miata with the Ford 5.0 is a awsome combo, it's like it was meant for the Miata, no cowl shake, fast as hell.

I have read about faster ones with Turbo and or supercharged V8's.
Look at it this way, if and when somebody develops a reliable turbo solution when that day comes, if you think the Miata was fast.
But... you may have been up against a Monster Miata.

Miata Turbo is very generalized....the current kit start with an entry level 5 psi...the top of the line FM II kits run from 12-16 psi. These kits inclued big intercoolers, stand alone ECU and larger injectors. All kits run on the stock motor,93 octane..bolt on bolt off. Miatas CR is only 9.0:1. basicly the old GTX turbo motor,with RX7 tranny and similiar rear end.
Power produced:
5 psi-140-155 RWHP
8 psi-170-190 RWHP
12 psi 200-240 RWHP (usually doubles stock hp)
15 psi 230-275 RWHP
Almost any boost above 8psi is enough to beat an S2000. These miatas run under 6 seconds 0-60 and can hit 140 mph easily. There torque can match the HP output..Most miatas weigh from 2200-2500lbs avg about 2400lbs.
My personal daily driver is an 97 miata FM II turbo...I run 12-15 psi of boost all the time. My motor has had at least 5 psi and up since 22k miles current is 84K miles the last 30k with 12 psi and up of boost. I get 24 mpg.The motor is completely stock, I have AC,pwr everything subs/amps,,and a hard top,My car weighs 2475lbs.4:30 Gears
It dynos @ sea level 234 RWHP @ 12psi and 262 rwhp @ 15 psi (234 ft /lbs torque @ 3500 rpm)... red line set to 7600 rpm.
0-60 from 4.3-4.6 15 psi----12 psi
140 mph in less than 28 seconds
Drag strip 1/8 mile ....8.1 @ 85.5 mph ( 60ft 1.80)
1/4 mile 12.75 @ 108 mph
Needless to say almost anything stock on the street cant touch it..I have beat 911,SS,Firebird's,Mustang cobra's(joke) C5's,BMW M anything.S2000,Lotus 4 cyl tt, 3rd Gen Rx7's,Supra's. My losses were to a built Mustang with 150 shot of NOS,with Slicks on the street. My old roomates Viper...rt/10..but at 12 psi...he cannot beat me in the 1/8th mile at the dragstrip now, Of course he'll pull me top end. My buddies2000 C5 6 speed when I was running 12 psi..very close..Now @ 15psi I kill him off the line and he cant pull on me @ 100 mph!
8.1 in the 8th mile is very quick off the line...this usually will represent a stop light challenge.
*So dont feel bad about the loss...Im sure it was a 12psi and up Turbo.He hasnt lost many street races.
*check out Ric Stephens aka Minimonster in this months Turbo and SCC mag...Dynos at 400 RWHP makes 375 ftlbs of torque at 26 psi. On a stock block with minimal head work. runs a 10.98 1/4 mile at 125 mph and is a daily driver.
