Hey Dhess, I hope you do realize that the e36 M3 in here and in the States have totally diffferent engines? In the states they have 240hp (same as the S2000) while here we have always had around 305hp (around 230kW).
I fully realise. It most definitely had the 3.2L engine. All 240hp engines were 3.0L.
Keep in mind that an M3 is significantly heavier. I also failed to mention that he had around 100kg of stereo in his car. I don't exactly remember what speeds we ran, but I think we went from about 120kph to 190kph. If anything I think I was inching ahead.

I have Type R friends who raced a M3 coupe from a roll and lost by around 2 car lengths. This story has been verified by the owner of the M3 who happens to be the owner of our friendly local tyre shop and other s2000 friends. I am not sure what engine the M3 had but I think it was the 3.2.

Have a run I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

M3 automatics are rarer than the manuals. Most have the 5 speed.
This was a 4 door m3. I have seen very few manual 4 doors! I hope you where joking when ya said e36 m3 manual coupes are slow! I have a video of a s2000 racing an e36 m3 coupe and the e36 m3 coupe beats the s2000 by at least two lengths.....but to be fair it looks like the s2000 blew his launch! I am pretty sure the one i raced was an auto and I think it was the Luxury edition!

Oh by the way I was not sQueezing!

Just to clarify a few things:

US DID get both the 2-door and the 4-door variants of the E36 M3.

US versions of E36 M3 were ALL having 240HP. There were two editions: a 3.0 liter one and a 3.2 liter one (I think '97+). Both had only 240HP.

them europeans always get the better version (most of the time)

North American version are detuned , the reason is smog related I believed, that's why you can walk S2k in your stock e36 m3

Actually the European motor was entirely different. The North American motor (excepting Canada which got the Euro motor) was a tarted up version of the existing 3.0 and later 3.2 liter motor).

Some say this was because of the American preference for low down torque, others say it was to keep the costs down -- I figure it was probably a little of both.
