I don't see a lot of action against turbo Eclipses listed here but I bumped into two suckers, umm, spirited drivers. I love their coffee can exhaust notes, followed by their image in my rear view window.

Now I imagine there are ways to seriously hotrod that turbo but I see more fast Neon's than Eclipses.

I think the new eclipse looks like an american car.

I don't like the new eclipse. I asked a Mitsubishi rep why they changed the Eclipse and got rid of the 3000GT. They said there marketing believed sports cars were going out of style so they consolidated to one model.

I think perhaps there marketing should do some more research.

Yeah, but Penforhire, you're in Whittier. By my estimation you're still in the rice zone. Lots of 2.0 liter normally aspirated Eclipses trying to look badass :-)

A FWD Eclipse with basic boost upgrades, exhaust, downpipe, etc. but retaining the stock turbo, could give us a serious contest on the roll (off the line it can be hard to launch a high boost FWD car).

The AWD cars with the same mods will jump us off the line and probably be able to hold on through the quarter.

And of course, with a turbo, more boost is always an option, which explains the relatively large number of 12 second AWD Eclipses running around.

I use to own a second generation (95-98 ) eagle talon awd and they r pretty fast cars, especially modded ones.. once u raise the boost it'll be a sky rocket.. But one bad thing abt the DSM's is they dun corner well, the steering response sucks.. I can tell u that a stock type R could outrun a modded DSM on a racetrack easily ...

I agree. It reminds me of a sporty GRAND AM

The v-4 will burn the S2000 if the race is from a stand-still (2-3cars). But from a rolling start, let say around 40mph(2nd gear), the S will hang fine (speaking from experiences).

I have a lot of respect for the older eclipse gsx. They're every easy to mods. Can run 12 all day long. But from what i heard is that the gxs is not that realiable when modded. They seem to have a oil-leaks problems when under high boost.

hm...I also have a Stealth Twin Turbo (same as a 3kgt VR-4) and it's modded with basic bolt-ons and bigger turbos. Up the boost from stock 7psi to 14psi and the Stealth is WAY faster than the S2000, not even a contest. But at the stock 7psi, the Stealth would probably have trouble keeping up with the S2000. It's amazing how much 7psi of boost make. Too bad the car failed smog and the registration expired. I should get it fixed soon, but for some reason, whenever I have the time to fix it, my S2000 persuades me to take her for a drive. Go figure...

A 3000GT with a VR4 would defintely be a better match for the stook.
I raced a modded VR4 ( http://www.n2trbl.com ) a month or so ago with my SC S2K - he hooked up so quick with his all wheel drive, he had me by a half car length from the start - we just stayed even after that.

Before I dropped in the SC I raced a suped up Eclipse, tore him up. He had no idea what I was driving, asked me all about the car. "I guess I gotta drop another turbo in this car.." he said.

If it hadn't started to rain on the way I had a race coming Saturday with a Turbo Silvia - I was very curious how fast he would be. Half way down the street it started pouring, he called it off.
