Eventful night...
Hey everyone-
I just wanted to post what went on tonight. I have had a local MS3 wanting to get in a few runs, to see how he stacked up against the S. Just to give everyone an idea of the area we were running, its a 2 lane road, in the middle of a national forest... It was just completely repaved a few months ago, so its really nice asphalt. There is a 1/4 mile run that is marked by reflectors that the locals have setup. The road is dead straight and level for about 1.5 miles on either end of the 1/4 mile setup, so there is a few minutes heads up with traffic.
We met up at midnight and headed out. It is probably a 20 minute drive from where we met. When we arrive, there is more traffic than usual. We figure we should only 1-2 runs in, just to be safe, then we would head home.
Run 1: This was from a 20 roll to about 110. We line up, he is brake boosting 2nd. I honk, and we are off. I immediately jump 1/2 a car by the end of 1st. We hold the same distance through 2nd and 3rd. Once I hit 4th, he pulled about a 1/4 car back. We finished at 107ish with the front of his bumper at my A-pillar.
We turn around. We wants a faster roll....
Run 2: We do a 40-100 run (limited at the end due to lights coming around the corner 2 miles ahead... we shut down WAAAY early, in case it was the police). He brake boosted 3rd, and I started in 2nd. He honks this time, and he immediately pulls a 1/2 car on me. Through 3rd he puts about another 1/2 car, and the same into 4th (pulled 1/2 car on the shift).
We were planning on making a run from a dig for the full 1/4 mile, but traffic was really heavy (a car every few minutes, but still not worth the risk). We are pulled over on the shoulder near the "starting reflector" with lights off. After a few minutes, I decide its too busy, and not worth the risk. I get out of my car and walk back to his and tell him that its too busy and that we should just call it a night (late football game, so people are probably going to be heading home through the night from parties, etc.). As I get to his car, the car coming up from behind us slows down.... Its a cop (Florida Highway Patrol). We are just sitting talking, so there is nothing he can do. He flicks his lights on and asks us: "Are you the ones that called in about the Bear?" We look at eachother completed stumped.... I respond back: "no sir. We have not seen any bears out here..." (remember... middle of a national forest). He then asks: "What are you two doing out here?" I responded: "We are lost and trying to figure out which way to go." He says: "Alright then. Have a great night." I was like WTF!?!?! I was SOOOO sure we were going to get busted... I am almost positive that the cop was called by one of the passing cars, as when he left, supposedly to look for the "bear" that was called in, he turned RIGHT around and headed back the way he came.... I am convinced that he knew what we were doing, but did not get to witness any of it.
WHEW! This was actually my first "street race" and will probably be the last one for a while. We are organizing a trip to the local track in the next month.
Just for stats:
MY07 MS3, Open DP, CP-E intake, motor mounts.
MY00 S2k, INJEN CAI, Comptech CBE (stock cat), and HEAVY 18" rims
It was overall an exciting night, and I was suprised at how well the S held up against the MS3 from a roll.... When those things hit full boost... good bye (vs. stockish S2k)!

Yeah, we were in the middle of NO WHERE. I am 100% convinced that he knew what we were doing, and just gave us a warning. Not all cops are a-holes. If he wanted to, he could have found a few things illegal about my car (exhaust and cleared corners to start). He was a cool guy and just went on his way, as he knew we were not hurting anyone/anything.Deathsled - Yeah, we were running at Bloxham, if you know the area...

We are making a trip to SWGMP in a few weeks if anyone is interested (Negcamber or Deathsled?) I would LOVE to see more than 1 S out there!
There will also be an LS1 swapped FD RX-7, as well as some pretty bad-ass turbo's (supra, S13, etc.). I am also attending my first auto-x meeting this week with some locals... Sounds like FUUUN!!!John

Anyway...I don't know what SWGMP is though.

Seat is out, so she is really low down. She just like to ride.
She could jump out, but she learned her lesson a few months back when she jumped for a squirrel out of the back of my Dad's truck (doing like 20mph on the way down to the lake). Broke one of her toes and she was in a cast for 6 weeks. She sits STILL now.
I am convince when I get my VAFCII tuned and I throw on my stock rims, I will walk the MS3 from 20... and will be a lot closer on the 40 roll... We are going to try and arrange a few dig runs together at the motorsports park... He wants something on vid next time, I dont think he knows just HOW slow I was running with those 18's!
On a side note: We each took a fly-by in each other's car when we got back to the meeting place (I had never heard my car at WOT from outside before, and the same for him). And I must say, the MS3 is a torque monster! The only real problem I "felt" was that the powerband was REALLY tiny. It really only felt "killer" from 4000-5500. You physically feel the power drop off at 5500, and the turbo does not spool until 3500 (or at least it did not feel like it hit full boost - was not brake boosting, and I was able to get into 3rd). That boost-limiting ECU also sucks nuts! The transmission also felt very rubbery... There was a significant amount of "dead feel" in the shifter... But then again, this is comparing a hopped up 3 series it to a purpose-designed sports car.
Negcamber:
I am going to be making a trip to Stage 6 to have them tune my VAFCII. Mase is going to try and squeeze me in on a Sunday... Great guy!
SWGMP = Southwest Georgia Motorsports Park (thought it was SouthWEST Georgia Motorsports Park)
. It hosts auto-x events and has a 1/4 miles track, you have probably heard of it. I believe its in Adel, Ga (Cook County).
