Default F20C vs LS1

Had always wanted to run into the 4th Gen Camaro SS and see how I would fair against the almighty LS1

Found a white Camaro SS at a street light w/ some burly looking redneck dude (not being stereotypical, just stating facts ) driving it. We go like normal, and hes got some form of exhaust.

Get up to about speed limit of 40, sitting side by side, he downshifts and takes off. I let him go, dont do anything. We get to a part where its very straight, very backroadish and no ones around so i say what the hell, catch up to him and downshift to 2nd, at about 7k rpms

I see him look over, and i hear him downshift and he punches it and I follow suit. He got a bit of a jump and was 1/4 car length ahead but i pulled that length and then another car lenght or so as i wound up 3rd gear, shifted into 4th and let off, going about 80-85 (Ive got 4.77s)

He flew past me, made the left at the next light, I gave him the thumbs up but he didnt do the same. Must have been butt hurt

Anyways, always a good ego booster to take down a V8

Mods in sig, Ive seen alot of calls on runs w/ these cars. Im assuming the short run and the 4.77s are to blame for the outcome

Good kill.

A healthy manual car can run high 12s at around 108mph, given the right conditions. I was able to do 12.96 @ 108 in an I/E 02' Trans Am. The autos have longer gears, so are significantly slower. A healthy car/driver might have led to some different results in your race.

My buddy has raced his friends LS1 4 speed auto trans-am quite a few times.

The transam has long tube headers and dual exhaust. It's a high quality exhaust setup and sounds amazing.

anyways my friends car runs 13.9's @ 101 mph and he's dead even with the transam in a race.

auto is a lot slower than 6 speed.

Wow, I wish I had the same outcome when I ran an SS(LS1) Comaro...But he walked me...Slowly.

I stayed with a Z28 and got a thumbs up from the guy.

anything can happen on the street i suppose. ive run a friends 00 SS in my stang and its all i can do stay door to door with him. last time at the track when i was stock i went 13.54@104. ive since added mods and should be quite a bit quicker.

Ive never ran a 1/4 mile, nor really want to, but I'd like to think my car could run a 13.5 w/ a good driver (aka not me)

However I do hear 4.77s arnt the best for the 1/4

theyre the best for the fun and surprising big v8s on the street though

I've ran a LT1 trans am 6speed.. It was modified and had spray..

We went from a 45 roll (right under vtec in 2nd) and I honked it off and I was ahead of him until the top of 3rd 80ish mph.. Then he blew passed I me like I wasn't even trying anymore..

I hear the 4.77's are pretty good.. But I've also beaten a stock ap1 with 4.77's on the interstate back when my car was stock everything except for suspension.. So I'm not sure of they are that much better than the 4.10's

for roll racing usually longer gears are better as long as that aren't ridiculously long.. But from a dig or like a 1st gear roll they (4.77's) will help you accelerate harder.. But you spend more time shifting.. So if you can't shift at a decent speed.. You will get caught by the person shifting less

This is some really bad and inaccurate information. I want you to just look at a dyno of an S2000. Look at the power levels and their relation to the engine's RPM. That's all I've got for you.

okay.. OMG VTEC

well you put any evenly powered honda with an equally matched GTO.. F body or vette..

and i guarantee you 9 times out of 10 that the honda will lose because of the power band and gearing that they have..

i guess most people on here dont realize that peak power doesnt mean shit.. its all about the area under the curve.. and most honda cars have nice peak hp.. but poor mid range and low range power..
