You shouldn't have any whine with the 4.77's. They are factory gears and should fit perfect and create NO WHINE at all.
really?? does it make a difference that i am the 3rd owner of the gear?? everyone else has said that it should have some whine...

but they're 16% faster in each gear. they just top out at 144mph.

right?
This is the misconception of gears and especially the higher ones. Just because you get a 16% torque multiplication with these 4.77's doesn't mean your car now travels 16% faster to a given spot on the road. Make sense? There is more involved. This has been debated allot in other threads so i'm not going to get into explaining all the factors as I don't have the strength, but as stated its been proven.

Have fun with them but don't get delusional about all the performance aspects.

yep i've read all of the debates. i know that there is benefit here but no benefit there, it's faster here but slower there...

but in the end, it's SO DAMN FUN

To explain further, I still have the factory 4.10's in the rear end but changed my rear tire size to change the effective gear ratio to 4.33. Just saying I have 4.33's is easier. But actually the smaller overall size of the wheels has removed some unsprung weight and reduced the rolling enertia so its more efficient then just a strait up gear swap.

You don't want to hear what I have to say about your run so I'm going to help you out here and possibly some other folks and say that i'm all for driving fast and pushing my car on the street at times, but i'm pretty smart about it these days. Reading about you bobbing through traffic driving crazy racing 2 other cars made me cringe. It changes things when you incorperate other people on the road that didn't choose to be apart of your fun, know what i'm sayin?

Try and re train yourself to hold back until a safer opportunity comes up. Thats my advice to you. Iv'e done what you described in my past. Its not worth it if something bad happens and chances can be pretty good that it will, it just a matter of time... and if it doesn't, your lucky. Another aspect that you may not be considering is there are cops around and just at a cell phone call away from a pissed off person that got cut off by you. You don't want to deal with that cop! bye bye S2000...it was fun wile it lasted

Peace dude
