Default Going to race a 350Z

Hey guys, I just made a verbal agreement to race a 350Z next week. This guy is about to pick his up and wants to have an early kill story for the new 350Z boards. My car is bone stock and his will be too. He is buying a stick so I am sure that I will have a good chance of beating him. His car's engine will be brand spanking new and he will probably not be use to the shifter yet either. We haven't discussed the terms of the race, distance, starting speed etc, so I want to make sure that I race the S in our best power range. What speed should I start the race out in and in what gear? I was thinking 3rd and about 50 mph. Also, has anyone else fooled around with a 350Z yet, if so what were your experiences. I want to make the board proud.

50mph in 3rd gear? that isn't even vtec.
Please if you are going to race him do it right. Start out in 2 or 3 if you want, but get it into vtec.

I was thinking that in 3rd at around 50, I would be pulling about 5000 rpms, after I punch it, i would bring it up to vtec range pretty quickly without having to shift right away. That late shift will help out. when he has to make his first shift into 3rd I will be at 8000 and pulling, so I will get a jump and then shift and try to keep at around 7000. from then on, I will hopefully have a hold for the rest of the race.

U should at least be around 6500. I say more than 7000 to rev and gain speed faster. At 5000 RPM u r going to rev slow.

Racing is a waste of time. A true test would be if he could keep up with you on the Dragon!

Besides, too much of this comes down to each individual driver.

Never underestimate any Zcar. Before I bought my s2k I ran one down in my 280z. Bear in mind that my 280 is radical. Forged high compression pistons 30 over 13 to 1 comp. Bullfrog cam 500 lift 450 duration. Tripple webbers and even nitrous which I did not use. The new Z's like all the old have top end power, so be careful.

Best Motoring pro have drove both cars on the track and time was very very close. 20th of a sec difference on the track. You want to start at a lower mph and higher RPM. 2nd and 50....about 7k.

Btw, little things you can do....Dont bring passenger, remove spare and tools....small things people wont know. Make sure you have 3 bars on your temp guage but not let the car idal too long so the fan comes on.

Other than that, everything up to the driver......all I can suggest these little chits
