So I'm talking to this guy who says he has a 95 Camaro Z28. I figure okay, it's the LT1. He says yeah. I said ok, well I'll race sometime if you'd like. He goes, "i'll whip your butt". I say, well I've tied/beaten an occasional LS1 before. He goes, "well my car has the LT1 corvette engine." I'm like... yeah.... and??? (they shared the same engine right?, but the vette engine was obviously tuned to put out more hp/torque)

And he says "well take an LS1 engine and add 150hp". I'm like.... uh, okay. So anyways I'm gonna race this guy.

But my question is, I don't know as much about domestic as imports, but even I'm thinking this story sounds kinda shady.... Last time I checked an LS1 was FASTER than an LT1....

 

There are a few differences. Vettes have 4 bolt mains while f-bodies have 2 bolt mains. The extra HP in the vette(300 vs. 275 or 285 depending on year) is from the air induction stuff, minor cam difference and exhaust. The vettes have a cam with a few hundreths more lift, but that doesn't make much of a difference. There hasn't been much of a gap between vettes and f-bodies since 93 when the LT1 was put in fbodies, aside from 97 when the vette got the LS1 and the f-body still had the LT1. If he actually did swap in a corvette LT1 he would gain maybe 2-3 tenths over stock if anything at all, not worth the time/effort/money when you could get a cutout for 50 bucks and gain just as much.

 

See, that's what I love about this forum. I can ask questions about domestics like camaros, mustangs, or vettes and someone will have an answer. lol

I raced 96 Camaro Z28 from a dead stop(TWICE) and I had him by 1/2~1 car
(He had a passenger, and I didn't)
