Having fun with a new WRX
Friday on my way to work on a 4 lane highway (270 north bound, for those of you in STL) I came across a new silver WRX. Rolling up behind him slowly caused him to move from the fast lane to lane #3. As I got beside him I looked over to find him smiling with a "game on" face. We were traveling at about 70 mph, and the normal traffic flow of the fastlane is 80+. We both dropped the hammer, I went to 3rd gear and ran it out. We didn't have much room before coming up on more traffic. The S pulled on him fairly well. The next 20 mins were various blasts of speed, with various results. Sometimes the S would walk away for 5 seconds or so as if the WRX was superglued in place. Other times things were somewhat even depending on who was being more aggresive.
As we exited to another highway (270 to Highway 40 west) there is a sweeping tight turn/entrance ramp. The WRX pushed it hard just prior to the turn, I was following. As the turn started the driver slowed considerably, I caught up very quickly as he had "slowed" to around 65. I carried the turn at 75 without a problem staying glued to his bumper. Once we got on 40 more running but given the traffic (not to heavy, but enough to limit flat out comparisons) the S sowed to be a bit faster, but not as much as other V8's that have tried thier luck. As we parted we gave each other the thumbs up and waved.
Over all I was impressed with the acceleration (once the turbo was spooled). I am not sure how hard the driver was pushing in the turns, but given some of his other high speed multi-lane manuevers, he had been pushing the car to it's limits. If this is the case the car has about half the cornering ability of the S.'
I would like to have a better encounter with a WRX on deserted roads. I will probably have more posts with the same driver as many people travel at the same time each day
Also later that day the S KILLED a newer Formula Firebird stick. No off the line race, but 10 - 80mph rolls. Left him by about 6 car lengths. I need to stop running this car

Our car is clearly faster than the stock WRX especially on the roll, on an off the line start, we will be at a disadvantage as that car is so easy to launch.
However, some WRX's are running high boost and those might just be quicker then the S2k even above 60, depending on boost levels and octane rating on their gas.
