The M3s with engine problem are mostly Nov and Dec production cars. BMWNA announced 6year/100k mile additional warranty for the engine parts.
If it blows I will get a new engine

My friend & I were up in Buttonwillow with our cars. He has an M3 and it is a really fun track car. He hasn't had it too long so he was only driving it about 8/10th's. We had an S2000 behind us once and we were pretty impressed with that car in the corners, it kept up quite nicely, but on the straight it quickly lost ground, and a few times it would swerve off the track, it was pretty obvious that guy was driving it hard to keep up.

Hmm, that isn't the same story I have on the matter.
Hmmm.... guess you got me there. All I have to go on is ownership experience and being an active member in the local BMW CCA events and knowing many M3 owners that have had ZERO problems like myself. As well as being active in many of the E46 forums.

My M3 is a convertible. The s2000 will not hang with it under any sort of acceleration test. None. When this car hits 100mph the disparity increases exponentially. However, the s2000, for me, is more fun to drive. SMG takes some getting used to. If my wife was not driving it I would have gone with a manual transmission. It has become a nice change of pace though, considering that I already have that configuration in my Honda. When the sport mode is switched on this car rages, literally. On each downshift, depending on speed, the computer blips the throttle to maintain RPMs. In effect it is heel and toeing for you. Sometimes this occurs when you do not want it to, such as slowing down next to some innocent un-suspecting drivers who are startled by the abrupt sound of my engine rev. You just want a tell them, "hey, it's the car not me". This effect occurs under all of the SMG selections, not just the sport mode, but it certainly is more pronounced.
