If you going to race the stook you have to be in your powerband as much as possible. It does not have a V8 engine where you can stomp on it and expect a miracle.
Nevertheless, had he dropped at 7k the m3 would have pulled the stook eventually and my feeling is by not that much. If you think about it 0-60 in 5 seconds or 6 seconds is not going to be that much difference until the faster car pulls away.

I have raced my friends 99 bmw m3 many times. the cars are very even if drive both as hard as possible. That means revving the engine and dumping the clutch or going from at least 20mph in first. After that the cars are so close in speed...it isn't even funny. I have ran up to 100 with both cars side by side..neither gaining or losing ground...pretty cool.

umm..no, E36 M3 in the US is 240HP and about the same torque, plus the car weighs about 600 lbs more... that is what a torquey engine gives and better aero gives you.

The Stook got stomped. The clutch theory has just been beaten like a dead horse.

PS - That'a funny tag line elanderholm, just be careful you don't get surprised by one. It would be sad to be beaten by a "turd with a wing"...

nah, cuz in the end...he would be driving the turd and i would still have the S2000...not matter if his car is faster!! going fast in a straight line isn't everything!! If i wanted taht...i would have a moddified 5.0 mustang..for about 5k (+ cost of the car) you can be running in the high 10's low 11's...N/A!! (actually prolly cost lest then that). My friends cousin had an 8 sec 5.0 mustang i used to ride around in....now that...was FAST!! spin the tires at 100mph on the freeway...totally street legal...hehehe

No, spikey haired, visor wearing dork in a civic can embarass me...even if his car happens to be faster!!

Don't get me wrong, I think the S2000 is the best! My order is going in for 2002 Spa Yellow, ya baby!
This video clip only showed a BMW M3 stomping on an S2000 in a stoplight drag.
The S2000 is not a stoplight dragster, in fact my '90 CRX-Si would eat a stock S2000 alive and spit out the bones, in a stoplight drag war. This is because darn few people are going to side-step a clutch at 7.000 RPM, but I will side-step the CRX at 3,000 RPM every day of the week.
The M3 is a great car. The S2000 is a great car. They are as much alike as black and white.

Actually, the E36 M3 weighs about 300 to 350 lbs more.

the E46 (333 hp) weighs about 600 lbs more.

And, be assured, the E36 M3, which has won more awards from the rags over the past 5 years for handling than any production car ever made, is awesome on the track. One can dial up understeer, oversteer, or a balanced 4 wheel drift at will on the track. . .

I have expierienced the wrath of the new M3. One night at the street races my S2K was sort of the show stopper.... But not for long! A brand new 2001 M3 pulled up next my parking spot. Lets just say everybody asked us to race each other. So after some talking we setup to race. I launched hard at 7500 rpm and nailed him out of the hole...but success was a little short, due to him catching me sort of hard. Even though I beat him by a half car when we stopped, he would have easily passed me if we kept going.

They are beautiful machines, even though I love my S2K better!
