I can't believe that a Miata tried to race me. I was driving back home from a weekend trip and a black miata pulled up next to me. I looked over figuring he was taking a look at my car. He actually reved up the engine and looked over at me. I gave him a thumbs up and he took off. I was going about 55 at the time so I thew it in 3rd and had given him a head start. At 8000 RPMS in third, I was well ahead of him and when I put it in 4th, I just completely left him well behind. I slowed down immediately afterwards but I noticed that stayed well behind afterwards which I assume was do to embarrassment.
Yes I know it it no big deal to blow away a Miata but I just thought it was funny that some guy wanted to take on a stook in a Miata. He probably won't make that mistake again!

ha.. well i raced a F-150.. i couldn't believe the guy was actually revin at me.. i guess he can beat lesser 4bangers and assumed it would be an easy task. best part was his girlfriend was in the car. she was looking over and smiling after i beat him and we were at a light.. he started reving.. i guess now he's thinkin he'll beat me w/ torque.
got a great take off and left him.

A same thing happened to me. The guy waved and gave me a thump up then floored it...I didn't even bother to lay a smack down on him. He's probably told his friends that Miata can take on the STooKs...

That is a frequent annoying problem I guess, anyone for a run with MGFs? Man some old fart threw a rev at me and I just gave up trying to race em. Miatas, MGFs, family cars, riceboxes ... man what else? I should modify my car to make it look like a Honda Beat instead, too much attention to race and yet you win with no glory at all. Who doesn't know an S2K is fast? Oh well, maybe these people don't ...

S2000 are great cars, state of the art motors and handling on par with the best of them.
But the miatas are hard to beat for the money...many mods are available to greatly enhance their already excellent stock performace. As far as stop light performace all it takes is a JRSC kit with proper timing to make quick work of an S 2000.( I used to have one)And several turbo kits are available..which really make them scream. So In short be careful of the miata you choose to pounce on.
97 FM II turbo miata (262 RWHP)
0-60 4.3
0-145 mph 30 sec
1/8 mile 8.2 @ 87 mph
1/4 mile 12.7 @ 110 mph
