Derick, I'm not ragging on you, your dad is rather foolishly IMO offering to spend this sort of dough... so who can blame you? Here's the deal. At 16 years of age with very limited driving experience there's no way you should be looking at cars like the S2000 or the Supra. ALL new drivers make mistakes and these are not the sort of cars to make them in. Why don't you impress the ass off your dad and tell him you'll take a deferred deal? Settle for something with reasonable street cred for now in which you can gain some experience, and which will have a good trade in value in say a year or so and take the S or whatever... then. Lots more experienced drivers than you have come unstuck in the S2000. Don't be in a rush.

LOL.
You gotta point. The truth is there's lots of hot hatches about now capable of awesome performance, and being front wheel drive are a lot safer when pushed than RWD. This is doubly true in the wet. RWD and 240bhp requires a lot of restraint sometimes, you can get in serious trouble really quick. I have trouble holding myself in check sometimes and I'm a lot older than you. You'll appreciate the car far more in the end if you build your driving experience on a solid base. Despite all you read here sometimes there's loads of FWD hot hatches on the market that you'd have trouble losing round the twisties in ANYTHING!

Good luck anyway, and at least think about it.

Some ideas. (I'm not sure which of these you get in the U.S.)

Citroen Saxo VTR and VTS.

Peugot 206 and 306 GTI. Don't turn your nose up at the last model generation!

Golf GTI. O.K. it's toned down now, but still nice and rock solid resale value.

You wont want to part with any of 'em when the time comes.
