my first car
well, it seems im the only one who hasnt put his .02 in so here it goes.
Trust me and everyone else that says to get somthing you can haul your friends in. im 20, a college kid, and i drive a 94 mazda protege, four doors, good on gas, and i can drive my drunk friends around( or my friends can drive my drunk ass around) i plan on getting my s2k over the winter after i graduate. if i were you iwould get the wrx. nothing better than that for a college car. i guy on campus has one and it is filled with people. wait till after college to get the s2k. i go to school for high performance auto, and ive driven rwd since i was 16, till i got my mazda after i broke many parts on a few cars.
driving a rwd car with power is an art, not somthing you can just do w/o learning (and wrecking) a few times. ive driven a rusted out 80 malibu, to a 79 regal i built from the ground up, with 500 horse small block. that car should've been a track only car but i thought it would be cool to drive on the street. which it was untill i drifted it around a bend and over rotated. i over reved the engine, lost a main bearing, and floated the valves. in short it destroyed the engine.
bottom line.....
get the wrx, you wont reggret it

I'm older than dirt (63) and just got my 1st S2000 (2d childhood, really late.) There are some good remarks above, but I can tell you right now, a good used banger will be a better car for you than any new one. New one -- you will get keyed!; you will have accidents!; you have to buy premium gas!; Insurance for your Dad will almost double if you get an S2000, and when that 1st accident happens, well you WILL be at fault no matter how you see it and there goes Pop's insurance down the drain. Want other financial help some time? Get a decent looking used SUV, or Suburu, or Volvo. When you finish college (if you live to go) then get your dream car. You will have much more fun with a banger as you will not care when someone spills a beer, or pop, or you need that back seat for the special occasion. I've got 4 kids, all through college, and mostly by bicycle, foot, or borrowed vehicle (which you will not want anyone else to borrow your s2000), and now all have great jobs and bought their dream cars with just a little help from dirt ... Dad, I mean.
