I was on my way home "late night" last weekend on a long two-lane road when I saw this black 2001-up Lighting up ahead. I pulled along side of him and looked over. It was some guy, his gf in the middle and his friend sitting in the passenger seat. The driver looks at my car then starts to laugh with his friend. I very smoothly and slowly down shifted into second gear. It wasn't a "Let her rip" on the highway down shift. It was more of a rev match so I could be in my power band. So there I am cruising side by side at about 40 mph with my rpm sitting at 7000 rpm. Then, BAM! all your hear is that loud supercharger start to spin. (That sound always makes me miss my gsr ) Since I was already at 7000 rpm, I had no need to downshift. So I just floored it! It took maybe about 10 seconds and the top of 3rd for me to be about two car length ahead. Then he just let off. I slowed down to see what he would say and he just got real slow and stayed behind me. Needless to say, he wasn

As said, anything can happen on the street! Good kill, but keep in mind, in stock form, those are mid 13 second trucks...not 14.37

Good kill, I was 100% crushed by about four Lightnings when I drove my S, always from low speed rolls.

Lighting is an automatic. There are several dead points in its tranny. Depending where you are in mph is what determines if it takes off like a bat out of hell or a semi wounded bat out of hell. Thats the problems with autos and street racing they have dead spots where they just won't kick down to the lower gear. Plus three people in the lighting could easy be 500 lbs of rottin ford flesh. Still Lightings are mean trucks

I disagree with the above posters. My friend has an 03 Lightning and best he could do was 14.07. All his times were in that 14.07 to 14.09 range, very consistent. I have played with him on the highway 2 times and are pretty much dead even. One of these times i want to go from a dig. I will post once I know.

All depends on track conditions. A Lightning can run a 13.5 - 15 sec. 1/4 mile. Saying it ran a 14.07 really doesn't mean anything unless you mention the condition of the track, weather etc..

^ I agree. My Boss has a Supercharged 1999 Cobra, 2000 Lighting, 2001 Lightning, 2002 Harley and a 2003 Harley (He loves Supercharged Ford's as you can tell) and his best time stock with the '01 was 14.33 @ 98 mph. He obviously has a lot of experience with these trucks as you can tell and even he couldn

We're talking about a supercharged 5.4L motor and plenty of tire width here. Not certain how much the truck weighs but I'll bet on the well-driven stock L over a well-driven stock S in the 0-90 or 15-90 range. Maybe the S won't lose by busloads but lose he will...
