Was driving through Boca last night and ran into a Silver 350Z - I was turning left and he flew by me while his light was green. When I saw him U-TURN ahead of me to turn right and meet me on the street I was turning to - I knew it was on.. Not sure what model 350Z it was, but it was stick and had HID's .. Really nice, raced one before but the driver must have been a joke because I skunked him pretty bad - This time around, the story was different.

Sitting at 6k RPM in 2nd gear (Was going to slow down a bit and downshift to 1st, but didn't want to look like an ass if he had no plans of racing ) we went - I gotta say I love the way 350z's sound WOT - Still unsure of whether or not he'd race (most 350z's I run into don't seem to like to run) I was soon greeted by the grumble of his exhaust and his immediate jump on me (WTB torque) - I was at his quarter panel through 2nd until I climbed up the RPM's and we shifted into 3rd (his car chirped nasty, heh) midway through 3rd gear I fight my way to his door we throw 4th and I'm @ his fender and gaining... we shut down... I lose, he gives me the thumps up and takes the next turn.. meanwhile I'm craving a re-match - I think the race would have been different if I manged to drop it in 1st, even if I had to shift instantly I feel it would have minimized his initial jump on me due to torque~!

Oh well, was fun nontheless, been wanting to race a capable driver in that car for awhile..

My car is stock w/ the exception of an 03 ECU and I have a decent size exhaust leak I need to correct soon!

350Z

You didn't really lose, considering you were at his front fender and not in the optimal gear.

Sitting at 6k RPM in 2nd gear ... and not in the optimal gear.

6k rpm in 2nd is the 'optimal gear'. If you downchanged to 1st then you'd bouncing off the limiter.

I guess it's optimal but that is where our powerband begins and I know he was well into his... racing from roll's with low end torquey cars can be a problem in the S2 - but it was a fun race nontheless
