Neutral Observations.
For the most part, yes, Americans are totally into drag racing, and 1/4 mile runs are basically what all US designed cars are made to run. There are old Fords and Chevy's (ie, 1950's) that do 9 second 1/4s here. (obviously not stock!)
For that matter, we have a wonderful road course here. But, 99% of the time it can't be used because the straightaway is used for 1/4 drag racing. All (ALL) of the schedule that they post is 1/4 events. There are a few events they do not publicize that use the road course, which are usually on a weekday and closed to non-club members.
Sigh.
It's also a lot less expensive to do 1/4 runs; $10 for all night, $30 for all day, as compared to $100 for the day's use of the road course.
