Default New found respect for the S2000

Hi. New guy here. As you can see, i own a 350z. love the car.

Little story i thought i'd throw in here because i was reading that 14 page novel about the "Myth Busters" thread with the video of the 2 cars goin head to head.

This past saturday was at the strip for the first time with the Z. I can launch a 130rwhp motorcycle very well, but not that good in a car. have about 10-12 passes in cars. close to 100 on a bike.
Anywayyyyyyy, lined up with an S2000 with an exaust. not on purpose, i was just there to see what i could do in this car (100% stock). long story short.....

These 2 cars seem to be so close in acceleration. He got the jump off the light .073 vs .448. and he stayed right there in the same spot for the entire 1320. I was truly surprised. I thought the Z would pull at least a little on him, but it didnt seem to...until maybe the very last 200 or so.
The rest is as follows.

Z S2000
60' 2.122 2.150
330 5.936 6.047
1/8 9.056 9.192
MPH 79.17 78.76
1000 11.731 11.883
1/4 13.984 14.165
MPH 101.52 98.71

Pretty darn even I'd say. While I managed 2 runs in the sub 14 range, I did notice that he didnt make it under 14 in the 4 or 5 runs i saw him do from the stands.

The S2000 is a great car that has great styling and one hell of a motor for being only a 4 cyl.
Now lets take it to a road course....uh, no thanks. i'll pass on that one.

Also, just want you all to know that I am not trying to troll and wont give anything but respect towards the S2000. Keep up the good site.

Rick

Great runs! I have no idea why so people many constantly argue over which one is faster/quicker etc. They're both very evenly matched cars in straight-line acceleration. Its a drivers race...end of story. Nice to see an intelligent Zed owner that can grasp that fact.

Neo...see, the problem is what is printed in the mags. someone sees that on a certain day car "A" ran a 14.1 and in another mag car "B" only ran a 14.2. So, it must mean that car "A" is quicker all of the time over car "B".
Magazines just destroy human perception..not all but alot of perceptions.

I roadraced motorcycles for a short time and there is one thing i know for certain, its the rider. i cant tell you how many times i was passed by a yamaha tz250 or even a 14 y/o kid on a 125 2 stroke. oh..i was on a yamaha R6.

Tests done on different days pretty much amounts to nothing in my opinion except maybe an understanding. you dont know track conditions, temp, driver skills and so on. too many variables to take one thing for granted just because you read it in the mag. I mean, i have seen the difference between the 0-60 times on my car vary as much as 1/2 second. thats alot. 5.3 to 5.8

This understanding which you and i share is only acquired through experience. those who talk smack dont yet know. i know, you know, many know, but many dont.

when i first saw the S2k several years ago i was like...wtf is that? I WANT ONE! but couldnt have one. The Z just moved me from the very first pictures i saw of it, so when i had the opportunity to get one, i did. had i been in a position to buy several years ago, it would have been the S2K.
Hey, i'd love to have an S2k to flog around Texas motor speedway or TWS, or cresson for that matter. i think the s2000 excels greatly in that arena over the 350.

Both are great cars. How can you go wrong?

Looks like the S2000 owner wasn't launching hard enough.

I pulled a 2.0 60 ft time on my very first pass down the darg strip back when my car only had 1500 miles. I'm sure 1.9's are possible with a perfect launch.
