new kill....
today on hixson pike i was drivin with the top down, and i see a gold merc, i scan to see what type it was and i saw it was an s500, well now i see that he has taken off and i said WOW its an AMG, the car was quite fast, so i floor it, i am slowly gaining and then i said DOH down shifted to 3rd and caught up to him, i was about 1/4 car lenght ahead and still pulling at aroun 100 mph when we quit, i saw one up close in a parking lot and thought it would be fun to race one, they are pretty fast but the guy i was against had an automatic, im not sure how much better manual transmission is, he was kinda mad that a honda beat him and was dissin honda, so i just said, hey what you call a POS honda just beat you and your 100k(???) AMG Merc pops!! needless to say he was mad, =)
If I remember correctly that car is huge and not exactly a race car. It has massive power though. It does 0-100km/h in 6.3s. That's not the AMG though. Still it was nice pissing off that rich SOB. Haa.haa. If I had that car I would probably just cruise and let you fly by.

Neither the CLK 430 or the S500 is an AMG car -- they are simply the stock V-8 compact coupe (the CLK) or full size sedan (the S-class) -- luxury cruisers and nothing more.
AMG cars have individually handbuilt motors by Mercedes' racing group and are designated by the body class letter and the two-digit (rather than the standard three-digit) motor code -- e.g., successively, C36 (3.6L in-line 6 in the compact C sedan body '95 -'97), C43 (4.3L V-8 in the same C body, '98-'00), E55 (5.5L V-8 in midsize E sedan, '99 - present), ML55 (same engine in ML SUV, '00 to present). Only about 500 of each model are sent to North America each year, thus their rarity (AMG wheels are very common on many Mercedes, AMG body kits can also be bought and even fake AMG bedges can be bought).
Latest models are CLK55 (same 5.5L V-8 in the compact CLK coupe -- fastest Benzer ever sent to North America), S55 (full-size S-class sedan with the AMG 5.5L engine) and the CL55 (full-size coupe with 5.5L V-8). Coming next year is the C32, supercharged 3.2L V-6 with 16 more HP and 70 more ft/lbs of torque than the new M-3.
The Star, Mercedes' owners magazine, recently had a article on a series of owners' promotional meetings where Mercedes had a ML55 with a professional driver beat volunteer Mercedes owners in a Boxster in a 1/4 mile run -- with the ML going through a slalom while the Boxster went straight.
Short of spending $30,000 for a RennTech motor rebuild to increase displacement, these are the ultimate Benzers -- not quite as agile as a M-3 or M-5 (only come with automatic and still compete favorably with manual M counterpart, e.g., M-5 and E55), but far more comfortable and luxurious as well as more durable. Nothing like the S2K, but you can take several friends and luggage along in air-conditioned comfort with instant torque response.
While AMG cars (including V-12 versions) have been available in Europe for some time, the C36 was the first sold directly here other than a few "AMG Hammers" in the '80s-- a predecessor of the legendary 500E of the early 90's which was developed jointly with Porsche.

you're welcome. The AMG wheels are very common and can even be bought from TireRack. Next time look at the tailpipes -- the real AMG cars have special dual chrome tailpipes with "AMG" on top.

Sumir,
I find it very hard to believe that you could read the AMG on his rims as he was going 100mph. Mercedes driver have too much class to be racing Hondas, I'm sure he wan't mad.
What I'm getting to is that your story is quite pathetic and you seem to feel the need to reassure yourself that your little Honda is better than a Mercedes S500, or any other model for that matter. Well it's not. Truth hurts...

For what's it's worth, I've had several Merecedes' try to race me. Several SLK's, a few CLK's and an E55. I'm sure that all of them were of the highest quality and got an excellent view of the rear of my car through their MB badge sticking out on the hood. In actuality we (more like my fiancee') have a 2001 CLK 430 and as far as I'm concerned, it's a POS. Sure the AC stays on for 30 minutes while I'm in the store but it doesn't matter when it's in the shop every other week because a different idiot light is going off. Don't let it worry you Sumir, the reason that I say it's my fiancee's car is because there's no way I think that CLK430 is worth $60K and I would be pretty upset if I had purchased a car based so heavily on name recognition. Granted it's not a CLK430 but for half the money you can buy a CL TypeS that will hang with or better the CLK430 in just about every performance category. After that, you should have enough left to find a nice used S2000.
