One from the Middle East
Dubai, is littered with speed cameras, mostly straight roads and roundabouts with very, very shiny & slippery tarmac.
Normal trip home but with the top down as it was a bit cooler and less humid than normal and on the only stretch of road without any cameras, a couple of grippy roundabouts and some nice gentle bends.
For those in the know - the road behind the Emirates Towers going towards the city, turning right at the end and going past the Sheikhs Palace down to the Oud Metha Road.
Anyway, the traffic is very light for the time of evening and I'm just enjoying booting the S about. I pull up to a set of lights with an older riced up Civic with gauges everywhere on one side and a Mustang on the other. Don't ask me what years or specification as I couldn't tell - not the new Mustang though.
The lights change and all 3 of us dropped it. The Civic began to fall back but the Mustang and I were level pegging (the road is empty - it's not my thing to endanger anyone, least myself). Even with me out braking the Mustang comfortably, he had the right lane for the peel off right to the adjoining road. He was sooooooooo slow round the corner. The Civic caught back up.
Same story coming up to the next roundabout, he had to slow so much but I could hear the Civic behind scrabbling away to get level again. Hit another roundabout which was a two lane jobby and I was able to nip through easily. Lost the Civic after that and the Mustang was valiantly trying to gain ground but failed. He then pulled off and that was that.
Nice! Funny thing was hearing the tyres chirp at different times when we changed gears.
Then just before I got home a M version with quad pipes of the BMW Z3 Cab was behind me. I floored it as soon as it was possible and he stayed with me - probably easily. The nicest bit was that we got struck in traffic next to each other and he complimented me on the S and having the roof down as I did to him.
See... not all bimmer drivers are twats
Best drive home yet.
