Pontiac?
Had an interesting encounter yesterday. I was driving on a desolate stretch of decent desert highway out in the middle of nowhere and driving around 80MPH. A white Pontiac (I think it was a GTO) slowly passed me... so I decided to see how fast it was going. I moved into the "pocket" and kept my distance... and the car sped up (slowly)...
The "Pontiac" reached a speed of 130 with me following before it slowed down, hit the brakes and took a left turn off the roadway. Truely a fast car, with a nice top speed, but if we had more straights, I might have given the "S" it's all, and I believe that my "S" would have gone into the 140s. I didn't have it goosed yet; I was just following to see how this "Pontiac" driver didn't want to be passed by my stook. I was "pushing" him with power to spare.
When the Pontiac driver hit the brakes, so did I. I kept the same 4 car lengths and decelerated to around 40 within seconds. "He" had good brakes, but mine were better. It was a cake-walk.
Wonder what he thought? I waved at him when he took his left turn, I made sure that I slowed down enough for him to see my extended thumb.
Fast car, but I know that the "S" would take that "Pontiac" on the track. I stayed in the pocket just to see what this driver would do and the "S" was right there the entire time - like an observer.
Fantastic car, the "S" is.
This is a desert encounter. Please don't try this at home...

Pontiac GTO will kill the S in the 1/4 mile, I don't know much about it but I believe it does 13.4-13.6 1/4 mile time. At least that's what the guy that was showing the GTO for Pontiac said when I first saw it at a auto show before it came out, not sure of top speed but I'm thinking that 1/4 mile wise the GTO will take the S out. I'm not even sure if they have different models for the GTO, nice run though.

I believe the GTO top speed is governed at 155.
Dude!
It wasn't a race. I wasn't racing him. I was pacing him. Two cars out in the middle of nowhere and I was just following. Not close. I kept about 6 car lengths behind at least. The other car just kept speeding up slowly, so I tagged along to see how fast he wanted to go. It wasn't a race. It was an open road encounter in the middle of the Sanoran Desert.
Relax.
