Default Raced a Mustang cobra convert.

On my way to work this morning I had 2 runs against a 01 cobra convertible..

The First run was from a roll of 30 mph to 110.. He stayed about a half a length behind me the whole way .. When we got to the light I said "not bad for a 2 liter huh ?" He preceded to ask me how the car was from a dead start.. I told him that it is a very difficult car to launch.. Then I pulled off my first perfect 6k launch.. I got a nice jump , lost a little in second gear , then preceded to pull in third. Then we had to shut down .. Would of been nice to see how I would have faired with some more road ahead.

Anyone have any idea on how much Hp's those cars have??

P.s. his car had a standard transmission (5 or 6spd ??)

01 Cobras have 320hp and will run low-mid 13's (yes even the convertibles). 5 Speed.

I am certain someone will mention the 99 Cobra and the horsepower issue they experienced, so why not go ahead and get that over with. In 99 the Cobra was supposed to have 320hp, however most dynoed around 305 (crank) just like the 96-98 DOHC cobras. Ford recalled the cars and corrected the issue a few months later.

Well the car had cobra badges on the sides and a SVT badge on the rear.. So I am not really sure on the year. But I am even happier if it has that much hp..

i have to reply by saying that the guy in the cobra probably wasn't pushing it too hard because my older brother has a 01 cobra vert (black) while my twin brother has a spa yellow 01 s2k. i've been lucky to drive both for extended periods and i have to say that without arguments the cobra will leave the s2k behind due to its unbelievable power at all rev bands. however with handling, the s2k wins without a doubt. mind you this is for bone stock cars. any s2k owner who disagrees is kidding themselves, although it still boils down to driver, etc.

I disagree with the avg "stock" Cobra running low 13's ....much less a convertible version.

I think high 13's would be a better number for the Cobras.

Yer prolly right... the mustang driver WANTED to lose.... either that.. or he was babying the car... or he was just proving that even though no one knew he "wasn't pushing it too hard" he could still stay even with an S2k...... yeah.. I do that all the time.

High 13s is good guess for most stock 99-01 Cobra convertibles. Some will run a little faster. They are also hard to launch due to pretty severe wheel-hop. Most stockers dyno out between 270 and 280 rwhp with a few between 280-290. Most convertibles will be around 3600 lbs plus driver. All 5 speeds until the '03.

Heh. Even my lowly 305hp 98 Cobra convert would run 13.8's all day. I have played with a friends 01, definatly faster -- it is a low-mid 13 second car.

Show me the driver that manages to break into the 13's with an s2000 -- and that same driver will rip off the above times in the Cobra.
