Default Raced a VW Golf on the freeway.

Tonight on the freeway, I had an encounter with a VW Golf. It was red in color, but I could not make out if it was a GTI or not. I raced it and it was neck and neck with me until I started pulling away towards the upper end of fifth gear. Are the Golfs this fast stock? Or could he have chipped it? I thought it'd smoke it, but I was humbled by the quickness of it.

it might have been chipped if it kept up with u on the freeway. My friend has a GTI w/ REVO chip and downpipe, putting about 220 fwhp

Couldve been an R32, sounds similar to the results with my freeway encounter with one. Early in 4th hed pull initially but once Vtec was in the 7.8k - 8.3k range i started pulling away. The R32 golfs have dual exhaust and a nice body kit on them. I think theyre pretty good looking cars. My second encounter with a different R32 Golf wasnt as close tho... this was from a stoplight... i walked him quickly.

Yup, must have been an R32. A chipped 1.8t wouldn't have kept up that well... Trust me, I know.. Of course it could have been a 1.8t with chip, downpipe, fmic, turbo pipes, intake, and pulley's, but you'd think such a car would have other obvious mods as well (aka suspension, loud exhaust, etc..)..

Does he have any other mods?? Cause a chip and dp alone are only good for about 180-190fwhp.. A boost controller with chip and dp might put him in the 200's, but it'd be a big risk on the motor/turbo...

otherwise, everyone else covered the usual suspects. . .

It was a two door Golf, but it looked like it had plastic hubcaps.
