Tonight, coming back from dinner I see HID's flying up on my right while stopped at a stop light. The guy was in a beautiful SL500. He pulled up to the light and edged about 1 car into the intersection. I noticed that he kept sort-of glancing in my direction while stopped. When the light turned green we both turned left onto a wide, 3 lane road. We both eased out and he got about 2 cars infront. I shifted easily through to third and kept in that gear in-case he wanted to run. At about 58 mph he looked in the side mirror and then hit it. I had never run one of these before so I thougt. "what the heck". I hit it too and by the end of third I had gone from 2 cars back to my front bumper at his rear wheel. To be fair, the road we were on had a very slight bend to the left and I was in the left lane. Right after I hit 4th he shut down. Has anyone here ever run one before? How should we do from a stop?

I don't know man.. those thing can hual ass! they can take a C5 easy on.. and the sl55 AMG loses to the Z06 by like.. a car length by the time they hit 100 I think... so... you taking on a sl500... damn... I'd have to say.. he wasn't trying... or theres mods in your car that you didn't mention. not trying to burst your bubble or anything man

 

SL500 won't take a C5 Vette. (not even a Z28 Camero) It is totally different from the SL55 (which is very fast). The 500's curb weight is well over 4000 lbs and they have like 302hp. The S2K should be able to take one of those up to 120mph. After that the Benz would pull with better aerodynamic and more power to the ground.

 

i def agree with mark_is300........u will pull on the sl up untill about 120mph , and u will pull most on the sl in the first gear , so the lower gear u race the SL the better

 

SL500's are dogs!!!!! They're fat and have very little horsepower for a top end mercedes!! I think they're mid to high 14 second cars if i remember correctly!

The SL55's are ungodly fast, but the sl500's are nothing to be afraid of.

I beat one in my X one night...didn't know he was racing...he got to launch, i didn't. By 80 i already had 4 cars on him. they're very slow...good off the line, thats all.

 

I raced agaist my friend CLK 500 which has simalar engine I believe. We didn't do it from a stop so I was on VTEC. I was pulling on him very slightly probably if we brought to a higher speed I would have been able to pass him.

 

Uhh... perhaps you need to try READING. I said we started with me two car lenghts back and we finished with my front bumper at his rear wheel. If you call that losing....then..... what can I say, I guess I lost.

 

Where did you get that information? It can not keep up with a C5. Yes, the SL55 AMG is a beast so why even compare them?

It is no surprise that you pulled on him. I love the way they look though. I would drive one any day of the week.
