I've just had an SL500 on loan for the last week (I talked nicely to the Merc Corporate demo lady)......
All I can say is that its a fast car under most conditions....... its high speed overtaking ability is very good (50 to 70 MPH in 2.8 seconds) and very little can keep up in a straight line. With a friends help with a stopwatch we managed 13 seconds dead 0-100 first try...... thats fast!
Its handling on twisty roads is nowhere near as good as the S but it was better than I expected from a 1800+Kg car!.
When I got back in my S I really noticed the lack of torque...... but the S is still miles more fun to drive!
